Senior Hurling
The second round of the Snowcream Senior Hurling Championship against Ballyduff Lower didn’t take place, as Ballyduff not for the first time this year couldn’t field a team and gave Mount Sion a walkover.
Intermediate Hurling
Our intermediates faced Clonea last Saturday in their second game of the championship in Kill. In the opening minutes both teams exchanged points with Dan Kelly and Michael Frisby scoring one point each for Sion. Clonea were first to goal when they broke through the Sion defence midway through the half to smash the ball to the back of the net. Mount Sion responded quickly with 2 points by substitute John O’Farrell and Dermot O’Byrne and a great individual goal by Mark Hoban. However Mount Sion ended the first half trailing by one point on a score line of 1-8 to 1-7.
Clonea started the second half stronger with 2 points and a goal in the first 10 minutes of the restart. Mount Sion hit back with a brace of points and a goal by Michael King. Clonea held on and added another goal to their total to edge out one goal winners. Final score Cnoc Sion 2-10 to Clonea 3-10.
Junior Hurling
The Junior hurlers took on Clonea in the second round of the Junior Championship on Friday evening last. This was a repeat of the quarter final of 2009. Clonea were first to open the scoring within seconds of the start with a goal. Mount Sion responded well and opened their account with points from Brian Hennessey, Aaron Dempsey and Patrick Bowe. Mount Sion finished the half 5 points up with the help of a goal by Evan Sheridan. In the second half Clonea reduced the margin to 2 points. Clonea were awarded a penalty to go ahead late in the half which was saved and cleared but with some hard work Mount Sion pulled away once again to widen the margin to 4 points. Final score Cnoc Sion 1-12 to Clonea 1-9. The next Junior Hurling Championship game is against Ballygunner on 14th May at home.
