Mount Sion GAA Club News
Under 21
Last Friday night the Under 21 Footballers took on Rathgormack in the Eastern Final which was held under lights in Carriagnore. With a number of absentees, Sion led for the early part of the game until the Rathgormack fight back came 10 minutes from time.
Both sides missed some early opportunities in the opening minutes, but it was Sion who got the best possible start with a finely executed free by Robert “Bomber” Breslin and a well taken goal from Richie Roche, gave Sion a 4 point advantage. Rathgormack took some fine scores in the remainder of the first half with only Ian Galgey scoring a point to give Sion the narrowest of leads at the break.
Rathgormack were quick off the mark from the throw in to draw level. Sion credited its account with 2 converted frees coming from Breslin and Galgey to regain the lead. 10 minutes from time Rathgormack picked up the pace and some defensive errors by Sion were punished to bring the sides level once again. A majestic point from Richie Roche from the sideline was worthy of winning any game but Rathgormack equalled it with also a point from the sideline to end the game all square and give us a chance to get another bite of the cherry. No fixture is made as yet and once it becomes available it will be up online.
