Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Under 21 Hurling
It was the third time in 2 weeks that Mount Sion and Passage met in championship, with Mount Sion firmly on top with 2 wins so far. Sion had to field without the injured Ian Galgey who broke his collarbone in the Senior game last weekend. Opting to play with the wind in the first half Sion led at half time by 3 points. 20 minutes into the second half and Sion were firmly in the lead by 7 points. But Passage reduced that to 4 when they successfully struck for goal. Sion didn’t score for the rest of the half and when Passage added a second and third goal with moments left, all hope of a comeback diminished. Final score Mount Sion 0-13 to Passage 3-11.Junior Football Championship
The Junior footballers played their first game of the season where they took on Butlerstown in Mount Sion. The weather once again was poor with heavy showers during the game. Kenny Stafford popped over 2 early points to put Sion in the driving seat. Paul Hammond announced his return with a fine point. Ian Sheridan pulled off an amazing save to keep the home side in the lead. However moments later Butlerstown were awarded a penalty and made no mistake and drew the game level. Butlerstown traded points with Ross O’Keeffe and Kenny Stafford. Butlerstown finished the scoring with a point to lead at half time. Battling against the elements in the second half the away side added an early point to their half time total. Ross O’Keeffe responded with a fisted point. Sion were awarded a penalty and the gaffer Ian “Bomb” Power placed the ball neatly into the corner of the goal to bring the sides within 2 points. Rory Sheridan reduced that to 1 point and set up a final chance for Sion to sneak a win or a draw at least. But with time running out Butlerstown blasted over to put 2 between the sides and time ran up for any come back. Final score Mount Sion 1-7 to Butlerstown 2-6. The next championship game takes place next Friday against Erins Own in Mount Sion at 7:30pm.Ladies Football
On Monday afternoon in terrible conditions the Ladies Footballers qualified for the Final where they overcame last year’s winners Na Deise on a score-line of 9-7 to 2-2. This sets up a meeting of ourselves and St. Annes next Sunday. Please get out and support the girls. Times and venues will be posted on the website. Best of luck girls!Under 16
Last Monday evening in miserable conditions our Philip Egan sponsored Under 16s took on De La Salle in the 4th round of the championship. De La Salle who were in their new Gracedieu complex led at half time and ran away with the game in the second half. The next game is on Monday night against Roanmore in Mount Sion at 7pm.Under 11
