Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Junior Football Championship
The Junior footballers took on Erins Own on our own home soil last Wednesday evening where they got their first championship win. One goal in each half from Richie Roche and Noel Flynn and a wonderful one on one save from Sion keeper Ian Sheridan denied Erins Own a late victory. Final score Mount Sion 2-8 to Erins Own 2-6. Well done to the lads. They have another few games to play. The next one is against Ferrybank in Ferrybank.Senior Tournament
The Senior hurlers played the final of the St. Molleran’s Tournament last Saturday and even though they led at half time by a goal. Carrickshock put in a better second half performance to run out winners by 7 points. Hard luck to the lads. There next game is in the Sargent Cup. This is scheduled for next Sunday in Mount Sion against the winners of Stradbally and Fourmilewater.Under 16
It was the last game of the championship for this group of players when they faced Roanmore in Mount Sion. These young lads never came to grips with a more experienced side and Roanmore ran out deserving winners. The lads didn’t qualify for the knockout stages, so the next time they will be in action is in the Under 16 Football Championship later in the years.Under 14
The Under 14s game was called off last Wednesday due to the referee not showing up. This game against De La Salle will be refixed for a later date. There next game is in the Eastern Championship against Roanmore in Roanmore on Monday 16th May. Please try get up and see the lads.Under 12
The two Under 12 teams were in action this week, but were in different venues for their City League games. The White team took on Tramore in Mount Sion and the Blue team travelled to Portlaw to take on the home side. Both games were entertaining to watch and both Mount Sion teams were successful. Final scores Mount Sion Blue 8-12 to Portlaw 0-1. Mount Sion White 5-2 to Tramore 1-6. Well done to both teams and keep up the hard work.Under 10
Over the next couple of weeks these little lads will be participating in blitzes in different clubs venues. This week it was our turn to host the event where the lads played very well in all their games. Some pictures of the games can be seen online on the website.Congratulations
Well done to the ever popular John “Joxer” McGrath who had a bit of luck in the Credit Union draw and landed himself a new Mercedes-Benz. Winning cars must be a new thing in Mount Sion as mentioned last week, Philly Flynn also won a car in the Carlow Club Draw. Well done to the two lads.
