Mount Sion Gaa Notes
Senior League
The third Senior League game of the year took place last Thursday night in dismal weather conditions. Sion opened the scoring through Richie Murphy in the opening minutes but this was soon cancelled out by Abbeyside. Kenny Stafford got the opening goal of the game from a long range free which dropped over the head of the unknown Abbeyside keeper, giving Sion the lead.
The second half saw Abbeyside score three goals, however to Sion’s credit they never gave up and replied from scores through Anthony Kirwan and Martin O’Neill. Abbeyside held out and managed to finish winners on a final score line of Mount Sion 2-13 to Abbeyside 4-10.
Intermediate
Our intermediates played their third game of the championship in Kill last Saturday night. Ballydurn hit the ground running and got the first point of the game which was soon cancelled out by Mark Hoban. This was a tight affair until Richie Roche scored the first of Sion’s three goals halfway through the first half, after this Sion never looked back.
Sion started the brighter of the two sides in the second half and some impressive scores from Robert Bresnan, Richie Murphy and Niall O’Sullivan moved Sion clear. Final score line Mount Sion 3-13 to Ballydurn 0-5
Under 12
The Under 12 Blue Team took on De La Salle in De La Salle last Friday night. We put in a great team performance and worked hard but we were unfortunate not to come out winners. Final score Mount Sion 3-2 to De La Salle 4-3. Well done to all.
