Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Minor Championship
The first round of the Minor Championship took place last Wednesday evening against De La Salle in Gracedieu. The home side opened the scoring with a point but a Darren Finn point cancelled it out. De La Salle hit their stride early in the half hitting 4 answered points before the opening goal of the game came. A ball off the post fell to a De La Salle player to easily knock the ball to the net. Austin Gleeson and Stephen O’Neill pulled points back for Sion but De La Salle led at half time by 9 points. De La Salle’s luck fell again when another ball hit the upright to fall into the path of a De La Salle forward who made no mistake about it, to give the Gracedieu side their second goal. Points from Aaron Coady and Darren Finn gave Sion some hope but De La Salle got their third goal. No more than 2 minutes later, Sion were awarded a 21 metre free and Austin Gleeson blasted to the net to reduce the deficit. Further points from Brian Hammond and Austin Gleeson and a goal by Ricky Freeman left 6 between the sides. De La Salle pointed before Austin Gleeson was deemed to be fouled and Sion were awarded a penalty. County minor Stephen O’Neill blasted to the net but De La Salle were on target with 4 unanswered points. Aaron Coady got Sion a late goal but De La Salle finished out the scoring with 2 points. Final score Mount Sion 4-8 to De La Salle 3-18. The next game is against St. Patricks in Colligan the day after the Munster Final.Munster Final

The Under 15s got their championship underway last Sunday when they took on De La Salle in Mount Sion. De La Salle opened the scoring with a point but a Ryan Flanagan free snuck itself into the goal to give Sion an early lead. De La Salle pointed from a free but Darren Gray and Evan Curran both got on the score-sheet for the home side. De La Salle got their first goal midway through the half, but another Flanagan goal and points from Aidan Power and Darren Gray increased Sion’s lead. The Gracedieu side cut the deficit to the minimum margin for the half time break. After the break De La Salle took the lead by a well taken goal. Evan Curran traded points with De La Salle before they struck for their fourth goal of the game. Sion replied straight away through Ryan Flanagan with a free that went straight to the back of the net. Again De La Salle replied with a point and a goal, but a marvellous flick from that man again Ryan Flanagan put the ball in the De La Salle goal. De La Salle finished out the scoring with 3 points to leave the score Mount Sion 4-5 to De La Salle 5-9. Hard luck but keep up the effort in training.Under 12
