Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
County Junior Hurling Final
The first of our two Junior finals this year was the hurling which took place last Saturday in Walsh Park, with our opponents being Tallow. The western side ran into a four point lead with Dan Kelly edging Sion into the game and Gavin Carroll getting the second. Tallow pointed three further points. Brian Hennessey and the young Barry Browne replied for Sion. Again Tallow pointed two points before a stupid error in the Mount Sion goal resulted in a goal for the men in yellow and blue. Browne pointed to leave six between the sides at half time. Sion upped their game in the second half with Gavin Carroll getting a beautiful point from the middle of the park. Brian Hennessey came right into the game hitting two unanswered points and Browne popping one over to reduce the difference to two. Tallow broke the spell of Sion dominance with a point but minor player Darren Finn, Dan Kelly and “the engine” Michael Power all pointed to draw the game level. Tallow threw over three points but a long free was caught by the experienced Eoin Fanning who passed to Gavin Carroll to bang home Sion’s only goal. In the dying seconds a save by Sion keeper Owen Sauvage, threw the game to a replay. Final score Mount Sion 1-13 to Tallow 1-13. The date has not being confirmed for the replay. Please keep an eye on the website or club notes for the date and venue. Best of luck lads. Pictures are up on the website of the game!Under 16 Football
The lads played the county semi-final against Kilrossanty last Friday, under lights in Carrignore. Both sides met in the league section where Kilrossanty overran us to win convincingly. However it was a new day and new game. Kilrossanty set the early pace with them running into a 0-0 to 1-1 lead after fifteen minutes. Sion edged themselves into the game with an Austin Gleeson point. Kilrossanty responded with a point but Lee Crowley goaled to leave one point between the sides at half time. From the restart Sion looked the better side and a Darren Grey goal gave Sion the lead for the first time in the game. Sean Walsh followed it up with a point. Kilrossanty were reduced to twelve men eight minutes into the second half. Minutes later they were awarded a penalty which they blasted wide and Sion never looked back. We added a further three goals and four points to run out very convincing winners on a score-line of Mount Sion 5-5 to Kilrossanty 1-2. Best of luck inthe final lads!John Keane Tournament
We finally got to run our annual John Keane Tournament last Saturday morning. Yet again it was a great day with all our young hurlers enjoying a good day of hurling. In the first of our two finals we had Connaught and Munster who played the shield final. It was a tough battle with Connaught, managed by Eric Curran and Shane O’Grady coming out on top by a few points. In the main final for the John Keane cup we had Ulster and Leinster. Both teams put in a mighty effort where little separated these sides in the very end. However the men from the north got over the line in what was a top quality John Keane final. Well done to all the lads for taking part and to the all the coaches and parents for helping out on the day. Pictures are up on the website from the day.Ladies Circuit Training
