Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes

Season’s Greetings

On behalf of the club I would like to wish all our members and followers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we hope to see ye up in the club for a few drinks over the holiday period.

Poker League

The final of the Poker League took place last Saturday with a table of 10 players. From the mid-week Freeze out we had Mark Flanagan and Ian O’Regan who advanced to take the final two places. Each player was allocated their final table chips in terms of their position on the final leader-board. Ian Galgey emerged victorious on the day and claims the top prize of €350. Well done Galo on your winnings. Also to Kenny Stafford and his number two Ricky Freeman on running such a great event over the last 15 weeks.

Juvenile AGM

The Juvenile AGM took place last Wednesday at 8pm in the club. We had a good turn out as normal for such an important event. Chairman Peter Walsh extended his welcome to Club Chairman and Secretary, Sean O’Dwyer and Seamus Cleere. Sean Spoke briefly about the juvenile club being the lifeline of the club and thanked all the coaches for their exceptional efforts throughout the year. Tina Gleeson gave a very comprehensive report on the years happenings. In the nomination of officers all were returned in the same positions with the exception of Drug Awareness Officer who is now Pat Kelly. The following were elected: Chairman – Peter Walsh; Vice-Chairman – David Thornton; Secretary – Tina Gleeson; Treasurer – Tom Power; PRO – Owen Sauvage; Equipment Officer – Niall Walsh; Children’s Officer – Eoin Fanning; Drug Awareness Officer – Pat Kelly. Well done to all those who were elected and best of luck to all our coaches and officers for 2012.

Presentation Night

Also last Wednesday night we held The Under 11-16 medal presentation. We had big turnout of family members and of course the children themselves. Some of the medals that were given out were for our Under 11 and Under 12 teams who won the City League. Well done to all those who collected their medals and awards. Player of the years were as follows: Under 13 – Jordan Hutchinson; Under 14 – Andrew Doherty; Under 15 – Cian O’Regan; and Under 16 – Austin Gleeson, who also picked up the Mick Healy award. Well done to everyone!

New Sponsor

We would like to welcome on board Philip Egan Wholesale Meats into our family of sponsors. Philip has kindly sponsored a new set of jerseys for our Under 16 team. Philip’s business is located in the Westside Business Park, Old Kilmeaden Road. We can’t emphasise how important sponsors are in the times that we are in, and on behalf of the club, thanks to all our sponsors for your continued support.

Last Man Standing

Keep an eye on how you’re doing in the Last Man Standing Competition by clicking on to “The Last Man Standing” Page on the website under the news tab! We’ve lost another good few who picked Newcastle and Everton this week.

The Interview Room

Our 2002 Senior Captain John Cleere is in for this week’s adult interview with young Under 12 hurler Eoghan Power is our Juvenile Interviewee. To see the lads answers get onto the website and look for the interview room under the news tab. www.mountsiongaa.ie . If you would like to take part, have a chat with Savo.

Chess Club

Chess club takes place every Tuesday night in the club at 9:30pm. We hope to see the regular faces and some new ones up next Tuesday.

Darts & Cards

Darts and Cards for club members. Come along and join in the fun. Darts takes place every Thursday night with Cards on Friday nights, both starting around 10pm. Great prizes on offer!! All Club Members are welcome.

Training Times

Training has finished up for the lads as we approach Christmas. We hope to see ye all back in January/February!!
