Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Junior Football Championship
We were back in big ball action this week with our Junior Footballers travelling to Ferrybank for the sixth round of the championship. The home side struck first with a point but Sion were back on level terms from the foot of Gavin Carroll. Ian Power followed up with a point but Ferrybank pointed and ran in an unstoppable goal to lead. The very talented Jordan Broaders broke through the centre and powered the ball off the cross-bar and over. The Wexford native continued his good kicking and pointed from a free. Paul Hammond pointed on the edge of the square and made no mistake with his lob of the keeper to give Sion a two point advantage at half time.
Sion steamed ahead in the second half with Richard Roche taking his goal well from his weaker foot just after the break. Ferrybank pointed a free but points from Broaders and Power kept Sion in front. Anthony Kirwan ran through the centre and smashed home another Sion goal. Youngster Darren Gray got in on the scoring action and pointed. Michael King made his way out of defence and also pointed. Goals kept coming for Sion with Peter Penkert coming out of nowhere to give Sion a 14 point margin. Final score of the night came from Broaders to leave the score Cnoc Síon 4-11 to Ferrybank 1-5. Sion are now guaranteed top of the group. Well done lads. Next game is against Butlerstown in Mount Sion on 19th July at 7:30pm.
