Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Senior Championship
The final round of the championship against Roanmore was moved to the Kill venue on Sunday evening. Mount Sion ran up a 4 point to 1 point lead after fifteen minutes. The points coming from Stephen Roche, Aaron Coady and captain on the night Sean Ryan. Sion continued their dominance for the remainder of the half with Gavin Carroll striking over just on the 16th minute. Roanmore responded with a point but Stephen Roche, Martin F. O’Neill and Eoin McGrath combined to give Sion a six point cushion. Both O’Neill and Roche hit scores to extend Sion’s lead and leave the Monastery men six points clear at half time.
Roanmore reduced the deficit within the first minute of the restart with Budgie Barrett finding his range from a dead ball. This was followed by a Stephen Roche free. A long ball out of the Sion defence by Ian O’Regan bounced into young Roche’s path and the goal was surely on. He was fouled, but the resulting penalty was saved and cleared. Both team’s free takers raised white flags. Scoring goalkeepers must be a new thing, with Ian O’Regan dissecting the posts with ease from his own forty-five yard line. Roche and Ryan both took full advantage of scoring opportunities but Roanmore clawed back another point from a free. Roche responded with another Sion point but Roanmore’s freetaker added another three points to his name. Christopher Ryan ran onto a poor clearance and pointed to end the game and send Sion top of board with other results going our way. Final score Cnoc Síon 0-17 to Roanmore 0-10. Well done lads. Quarter Finals will see Mount Sion face Tallow in a couple of weeks time.

We would like to wish Maurice “Moller” O’Regan a speedy recovery as he recovers at home. Maurice was on the first U16 Hurling Championship winning team in 1960.

Our Intermediates played the Quarter Finals of the championship last Friday night against De La Salle in Walsh Park. We never really turned up on the night as De La Salle turned in a good performance to run out comfortable winners. Hard luck to the lads.Minor Championship
The minors were again in action last week. A trip to the county champions Dungarvan was on the cards. Dungarvan turned in an excellent display to overpower the young Monastery men. We now have a break in the championship, until after the All Ireland Minor Hurling Final.
