Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Junior Championship
Our Junior Hurlers crashed out of the championship at the Semi-Final stage against a well tuned Clonea side. A poor start to the game saw Mount Sion trail at half time by seven points after Sion conceded two goals within the opening quarter.
Mount Sion pointed just after the break from Daniel Kelly. Sion were awarded two 21 metre frees in the second half, one blasted over the bar with the second saved and cleared. These would be two chances that Sion would rue. Clonea continued their dominance with three points unanswered but points from Kelly and Pappy Bowe bridged the gap. But two final scores from Clonea ended the game and the score as, Mount Sion 1-8 to Clonea 3-10. Hard luck lads.

Croke Park
Well done to PJ Murphy who represented Mount Sion in Croke Park recently in the half time games. He got a few scores and was interviewed on the big screen after the game! Well done PJ, a great little star for the future.
Speaking about Croke Park, the very best of luck to the Waterford Minor Hurlers and to our very own Austin Gleeson, Sean Power and Anthony Flanagan who will be representing us in the Minor All Ireland Hurling Final this coming Sunday. We hope to see the cup head south to the land of the Deise! Best of luck!!
Also to Mount Sion’s first All Star, Jim Greene who will be honoured at half time at the All Ireland Hurling Final as one of three Waterford men picked on the team of the 1980s! Well done Jim, you finally made it to Croke Park!!
Ladies Footballers
The Ladies Footballers travelled to play in a tournament in Richmond in London recently, in which there were eight teams on the invitation of the Fr. Murphy’s club. The girls played in group one and won their three games against Fr. Murphy’s, Fulham Irish and Tir Connells and reached the Semi-Finals against Parnell’s. The girls played excellent football in their four games and took their scores well. Mount Sion were the first team from Waterford to be invited to take part in the competition and are invited back again next year. Great credit must go to all who travelled: Anne-Marie Barrett, Trish Cleary, Ciara Keogh, Orla O’Neill, Elaine Kennington, Niamh Cooke, Lorraine Keane, Amy Flynn and Martina Cashin. The girls and Johnny would like to thank Larry O’Leary of the Fr. Murphy’s club for all his help toward flights, accommodation and assistance during their stay. Well done to the girls.Club Website
