Mount Sion GAA Club Notes

Minor Football

In the second round of the Minor Football championship we faced Ferrybank at home on Saturday last on a blustery Brothers pitch , we got off to the perfect start with a real poachers goal from Conor Malone quickly followed by two points from the industrious Conor Butler and a point from Mikey Daykin before the visitors responded with a goal of their own , another Daykin point and a couple of Ferrybank points left us leading 1-4 to 1-2 at the break.
In the second half despite some nice interplay and passing football we just could’nt convert our chances and a solitary Conor Malone point was our only return for all the hard work and pressure leaving the final score at 2-5 to 1-5 to the visitors , next up is St Marys in two weeks time .

Senior Hurling

Our Seniors played their first competitive game of the year in the St. Molleran’s Tournament against Tipperary opposition Boherlahan Dualla. The lads fell behind early by 1-1. But Mount Sion drew level with some good work around the pitch and a high ball in around the opposition goal by Richard Roche was finished to the net by Gavin Carroll. Stephen Roche continued his excellent run of form and was causing real trouble to the Boherlahan defence. Martin F. O’Neill, Jordan Broaders and Carroll all hit white flags in the opening half to leave Sion leading by four at the break.
Sion continued their dominance over the Tipp side with Martin F. O’Neill pointing and Roche following close behind with another two scores. It was nice to see Mark Hoban and Richard Murphy returning to the blue and white colours after their stint away in Australia for the last number of seasons. Sion ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of Cnoc Síon 1-13 to Boherlahan 1-8. Well done lads, the next round beckons.

Under 9s

We had two teams in the Under 9 ground Hurling blitz in Carriganore on Saturday last, both Mount Sion teams played Roanmore , De la Salle , and Ballygunner with the conditions not ideal for ground hurling they played exceptionally well with stand out performances from Dillon Ryan , Alex Walsh , Davin Marshall of team Y and Lee Flanagan, Shane Ryan , and Conor Walsh of team X
The two team panels for the day were ,

Team X ,Cormac Dunphy,Conor Walsh,Shane Ryan,Lee Flanagan,James Lambert,Fionn Walsh ,Ross Byrne and Sam Byrne-Russell .

Team Y ,Davin Marshall ,Jack Cowman ,Jack Barrett ,Killian Dundin ,Alex Walsh ,Jared O’ Keeffe ,Adam Regan and Dillon Ryan .

Get Well Soon

We would like to wish a speedy recovery to our Life President Dick Roche and Sion and Waterford  legend Ken McGrath who are patients in WRH at the moment , looking forward to seeing the two lads out and about again very soon !

Juvenile Flag Days

Thanks to everybody who helped make last weekend’s flag days such a resounding success by contributing  so generously and to all our members and players who gave up their time to sell flags and help in the organising of this major fundraising effort for the Juvenile club. .

Last Man Standing

There was no Last Man Standing this week due to the FA Cup quarter finals , it returns next week so if you’re still in it be sure to have your team into Tina by Thursday

Membership

The annual subscriptions need to be paid by the end of this month , fees can be paid behind the bar as usual and need to be sent in as soon as possible, all membership rates are available on the membership page on the club website or you can contact Club Registrar Paul Fanning .

Darts and Cards for club members. Come along and join in the fun. Darts takes place every Thursday night with Cards on Friday nights, both starting around 10pm. Great prizes on offer!! All Club Members are welcome.
