Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Under 14 Eastern Feile
Mount Sion 4-6
De La Salle 1-11
Our Under 14s played in the Eastern Feile final against De La Salle in Walsh Park on Thursday last on the back of a great win against Roanmore the previous week , the lads started brightly with the on-form Jordan Roche converting from a free while Jack Meaney next pointed from play, De La Salle replied with two points of their own before Roche sent in a high ball which the alert PJ Fanning jumped on to send to the back of the net for his second goal in two matches , with Charlie Costello and Alan Kirwan on top form the half time score was Sion 1-4 De La Salle 0-5 .Following the restart De La Salle took control and with their number 15 on deadly form went into a 1-11 to 1-6 lead and were looking comfortable for the win , but this team just doesn’t give up and in a thrilling finish two goals from Luke O Brien and a well deserved goal from Alan Kirwan sent the team into the County final , at the final whistle there were great scenes of excitement on the pitch and at the sidelines after such a comeback , well done to the team and their mentors and best of luck in the County final !Senior Hurling
Mount Sion 4-18
Ballyduff Upper 0-15
For the second week in a row the Seniors played in the Championship in Fraher Field , hoping to improve on the previous weeks performance they raced into the lead with points from Tony Browne , Austin Gleeson , Richie Roche and a goal from Stephen Roche all within the first five minutes , a top class save from Ian O Regan on thirteen minutes followed by points from Browne and Gleeson kept Sion on top although towards the end of the half Ballyduff were starting to get some scores of their own , points from Martin F O Neill and Stephen Roche closed out the half with Sion leading by 1-8 to 0-7. After the break Ballyduff scored four points without reply to bring the game level and the tie looked to be swinging their way before the Monastery men kicked up a gear with a point from Eoin McGrath followed by a Richie Roche goal with more points from Gleeson and Kenny Stafford putting daylight between the sides once more , two goals from Richie Roche in the space of a minute put the result in no doubt with substitute Ross O Keeffe getting in on the act and the hard working Martin O Neill getting the final score of the game to see Sion win by a margin of fifteen points 4-18 to 0-15 .Well done on the result and congratulations to Ritchie on his first Senior hat-trick , with nine different players on the score-sheet this was a very encouraging result going into the next match against old rivals Ballygunner which takes place over the June Bank Holiday weekend in Walsh Park , date and time are yet to be confirmed .Junior Hurling
