Junior Hurling
Mount Sion 1-18
De La Salle 2-13
The Junior Hurlers were back in action last Friday night against De La Salle in a windy Gracedieu pitch and after two defeats in a row were determined to get back to winning ways , Sion started well and took an early lead but two goals in quick succession gave the home side a comfortable lead going in at half time. After the break Sion with the advantage of the wind raced to reduce the deficit, points from the stick of the on form Cian O’Regan and Johnny Hayes cut De La Salle’s lead. The Monastery men were dealt another blow with the youthful Darren Finn exiting the field with an injury and with all subs used now had to finish the game with 14 men. By now though Sion were getting into the full swing of it battling away and reducing the lead slowly but surely with Johnny Hayes and Ian Power both pointing and Shane Flynn tacking on the insurance point. Two brilliant saves late on by young Stephen Power between the sticks ensured Sion’s first win in this year’s championship. Well done lads. Final score Cnoc Síon 1-18 to De La Salle 2-13. Ballygunner is next up and we face them next Saturday at 4:30pm in Mount Sion.Sargent Cup
Mount Sion 0-15
Roanmore 0-10
In our second match in the Sargent Cup we faced Roanmore at home on Saturday night last in extremely windy conditions , the visitors opened the scoring before Martin O Neill got Sion off the mark with a point from a free , from then on both sides traded points to leave it level at half time at 7 points apiece . In the second half we had a few squandered chances before the reliable O Neill calmed the nerves with a pointed free , after that it was level pegging until the last fifteen minutes when Sion scored four unanswered to points to leave the final score at 0-15 to 0-10 in Sion’s favour , next up is Ballyduff Upper in the club on Saturday at 7.30.Intermediate Hurling
Mount Sion 2-7
Ballygunner 3-13
The Intermediates started their Championship campaign in Walsh Park against old rivals Ballygunner last Monday , straight from the off they were under pressure as Ballygunner opened the scoring with a well worked goal in the first minute quickly followed by another before our lads could even reply , we did get back within four points at the break with a number of Gavin Carroll frees and a Michael Frisby goal but never looked like taking charge of the game and went into the break trailing 1-4 to 2-5 . In the second half even though we did get another goal from Michael Frisby with a rebound from a Shane Forristal penalty the result was never in doubt and as conditions worsened Ballygunner ran out winners on a scoreline of 3-13 to 2-7 , next up is St Mollerans in Kill on Friday at 7 and hopefully a better performance will be on the cards.Minor Football
Mount Sion 1-2
Naoimh Declain Thoir 2-9
In the semi final of the Minor Football Championship our lads faced Naoimh Declain Thoir on the back of two good wins over An Gaeltacht and St Marys , the first half was a cagey affair with both sides finding it hard to get scores in the swirling wind out in Dunhill , our main threat was coming from the dangerous Mikey Daykin in the forwards who scored Sion’s first point on fifteen minutes followed by Ferdia Mac Aodghain who raised the white flag on twenty five minutes , just before half time Conor Butler made a great block to keep the score at 2 points all .In the second half Naoimh Declain Thoir took full advantage of the wind and raced into an unassailable lead , a late goal from Andrew Doherty proved to be only a consolation and our lads bowed out of the Championship on a scoreline of 1-2 to 2-09 , hard luck lads well done done on getting so far and playing some nice football in the process !Deise Draw
