Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Pat McGrath
On Sunday last in the club we had a very special occasion to honour Pat McGrath Snr on his inclusion into the GAA Hall of Fame this year, Chairman Peter Walsh presented Pat with an engraved crystal sliothar on behalf of the club while we also unveiled Pat’s portrait which is to go on the wall in the club in honour of Pat’s achievements, Pat thanked everyone for coming and spoke of how he always saw Mount Sion as a club that looked out for its young players. Pat’s family were on hand to witness the occasion including Pat Jnr who only flew in from Australia a few hours previously.Scrap Saturday
Thanks to everyone who supported this fundraiser for the Juvenile Club last Saturday, it was a great success and hopefully we’ll be able to do it again next year.Under 14 City League
The Under 14s got their City League off to winning ways on Monday last against St Carthages in the club, the boys got off to a great start with an Alan Kirwan goal which was quickly followed by Scott Hoban hitting the net, in the second half the visitors started to get back into the game but the alert PJ Fanning kept Sion in the lead with a goal against the run of play, a strong finish with three points in a row near the end saw the match finish end 3-15 to 2-12 in Sion’s favour, well done lads next match is De La Salle next week.Intermediate Hurling
The Intermediates took on Clonea in Kill on Saturday night last hoping to improve on their previous performances, the lads started well with Jordan Broaders on top form getting scores to keep us in touch while Shane Forristal on goal kept Clonea at bay with a number of fine saves, half time score Mount Sion 1-7 Clonea 1-8 , in the second half it was all Clonea as they kept knocking over points to keep Sion at bay and with five minutes to go were five points ahead and looking good for the win until that man Broaders popped up again with a goal and a point to earn us a draw , well done lads on a battling performance and best of luck in the next match against Butlerstown in a few weeks time.Junior Hurling
The Juniors started the second round of games on Friday last away to Passage, in the first half Cian O Regan scored six points four from frees and had a great effort stopped by the Passage keeper to keep us in the game, our only other score in this half was a monster point from inside his own area by keeper Owen Sauvage to leave the score at half time 0-9 to 0-7 to the hosts. In the second half we had three wides before O Regan again pointed from a lovely sideline cut, some nice points from Evan Curran and Pappy Bowe followed but Passage kept responding with scores of their own to eventually run out winners on a scoreline of 1-15 to 0-16, this was a much improved performance from the lads and they can go into Friday night’s game at home to Clonea in a positive frame of mind.Ballyduff Tournament
