Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Intermediate Football
Cnoc Sion 1-11
Kilmacthomas 1-05
For the third round of the Intermediate championship the footballers travelled to Kill to face Kilmacthomas last Saturday afternoon, with some of the big names returning the lads were quick off the mark with the energetic Eoin McGrath getting Sion’s first point followed by team captain Robert “Bomber” Bresnan and Michael Frisby notching points before McGrath got another to leave us leading by four points, Kilmac then started to get into their rhythm with two points before dual star Austin Gleeson pulled one back, a speculative effort from a Kilmac forward then went over Ian Sheridan’s head in goal to put them right back into the game, the Monastery men responded well with veterans Paul Hammond and Michael Frisby raising the white flag before Hammond was first off the mark to fist the ball into the net to keep Sion well ahead at the break, half time score Cnoc Sion 1-08 Kilmacthomas 1-03 The second half was a scrappy affair with both sides cancelling each other out and with Bomber Bresnan getting our three scores Sion were well worth their first victory at this grade winning 1-11 to 1-05, next game is on Friday in the same venue against John Mitchells at 7.30pm.Under 14 Hurling
Our Under 14s were busy this week with two games in the space of three days, County Feile winners Abbeyside were the visitors on Monday night and then the long journey to Clonea on Thursday night, the lads tried hard and played well in both games to win against Clonea and to just lose out to Abbeyside, there are two more games left in the league section, at home to Ballygunner on August 11 and away to St Oliver’s on August 18.Kelloggs Cul Camps
A great week was had this year in our Kelloggs Cul camps and all the kids had a great time, thanks to all the organisers and coaches who made it such an enjoyable camp for everyone in the brilliant sunshine all week !Waterford Minor
Following their defeat in the Munster Final replay on Tuesday last it was a quick turnaround for the Waterford Minors on Sunday as they came up against Dublin in the All Ireland Quarter final in Thurles, the lads shook off the disappointment of five days ago and were worthy winners against the Metropolitans, this sets up another appearance in Croke Park against Kilkenny in two weeks time, well done to all involved.Senior Championship
Following Waterford’s exit from the All Ireland series last week the County Board have arranged the final three group matches in the Senior County Championship to take place over three weekends in August, Mount Sion’s first re-arranged match is against Ballygunner in Walsh Park on August 7th at 7-30 followed by Ardmore and Dungarvan the following two weeks, both matches to played in Kill, times and dates will be posted as soon as they are confirmed.Deise Draw
