Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Championship
Cnoc Sion 1-26
Ardmore 2-08
The Seniors faced Ardmore in Kill on Saturday night last knowing a big improvement was needed on last week’s performance against Ballygunner, from the first minute Sion showed their intent when Ian Galgey set up Ritchie Roche to blast to the back of the net giving the Ardmore keeper no chance, with points coming from Austin Gleeson , Stephen Roche and Martin O Neill deadly accurate from frees Sion further increased their lead before a good penalty save from Shane Forristal kept the Monastery men well ahead at the break, half time score Cnoc Sion 1-15 Ardmore 1-04,The second half followed a similar pattern with Sion well in control and with all the forwards getting their names on the scoresheet with the match finishing on a scoreline of 1-26 to 2-08, well done to lads for stepping up to the mark after last week’s game and next up is Dungarvan on Saturday at 5.30 in Walsh Park which should prove to be a sterner challenge.Minor Championship
Cnoc Sion 2-14
Dungarvan 3-15
The Minors faced Dungarvan on Tuesday last hoping to get their first win of this year’s Championship, Cian O Regan opened Sion’s account with a goal followed by some nice points from Eric Hoban keeping the scoreboard ticking over before Andy Doherty flicked the ball to the net leaving the score at half time Cnoc Sion 2-06 Dungarvan 0-06, second half Sion started off strongly but then Dungarvan got into their stride with three goals in quick succession leaving Sion on the back foot from which they couldn’t recover leaving the final score at Cnoc Sion 2-14 Dungarvan 3-15 , hard luck lads keep up the good work and the results will start coming, next game is Roanmore on Monday night in Gracedieu at 7pm.Junior Championship
In the second last game of the group stages the Juniors faced Roanmore on Thursday night last in Walsh Park knowing a win would see them through to the knockout stages, in a forgettable match the lads never really got into their stride and Roanmore finished out the game winning by a three point margin, this now means everything hinges on Thursday’s game against De La Salle in the club at 7 and nothing short of a victory is needed if Sion are to continue in this competition.Juvenile Hurling
It’s been a busy week for our young Hurlers in the club with both our Under 14s and Under 16s playing in their respective Championships, first out on Monday night were the under 14s who secured a good win over Ballygunner in the club while the Under 16s played Brickey Rangers also in the club and were victorious on a scoreline of 1-17 to 1-09 with Michael Flynn grabbing the goal, well done to both teams and mentors.Under 10 Tournament
Our under 10s played in the St Mary’s Clonmel tournament on Saturday last where they beat O Loughlin Gaels Ballyboden and St Mary’s but narrowly lost out to Graigue Ballycallan in the final, well done to all involved. Panel on the day was Jack Barrett, Cormac Dunphy, Jack Cowman, Davin Marshall, Hugh Flanagan, Jamie Meaney, Lee Flanagan, Dylan Ryan, Scott Ryan, Jake Marks, Evan Mackey and Daniel Butler.3 Ireland Facebook Competition
It was an exciting day on Monday last when our club was involved in a competition on 3 Ireland’s Facebook page where €2500 was the prize for the winning club, well done to Roisin Regan who nominated the club and who did trojan work on the day getting people to like our photo, we were up against some very strong competition and despite getting over 750 likes we ended up a very respectable second securing €300 in the process, thanks to everyone who helped on the day and it was a great example of how social media can be a positive influence for our club.Dartathon
