Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Intermediate Hurling
Following a difficult campaign our Intermediates had to play Tramore in a relegation play-off in Kill on Saturday last and a win was essential if this group of players didn’t want to be playing in the Junior ranks next year, Sion started well with the ever reliable Gavin Carroll getting the first two scores before the dangerous Jordan Broaders raised the white flag, next up was veteran Michael Frisby with a kicked point and then a scrambled goal putting the Monastery men firmly in the driving seat, three more points from Carroll left the half time score at 1-08 to 0-04 in favour of Sion In the second half the Seasiders made all the running scoring seven points on the trot and seriously rattling Sion before Carroll steadied the ship with two points from frees followed by lively substitute Richard Murphy to edge us back in front, Tramore never gave up and kept knocking up points before Mikey Daykin netted to finally kill off the game in Sion’s favour, final score Cnoc Sion 2-15 Tramore 1-15, well done lads, best of luck for next year.Minor Hurling
Our Minors have been having a hard time of it this year and last Wednesday night against St Carthages was no exception, the first half was a quiet affair with Sion’s two points coming from the stick of Evan Curran, half time score Cnoc Sion 0-02 St Carthages 1-06, the second half was more free scoring with Sion getting 3-09 but this wasn’t enough against a strong opposition with the final score ending up Cnoc sion 3-11 St Carthages 5-13, there are two more games to go in this Championship with Ballygunner and Passage to come in the next two weeks .Under 10s
The Under 10s played in the annual Shane O’Neill memorial tournament in Danesfort on Saturday last. We were in a tough group with Oulart the Ballagh and Paulstown from which we qualified for the plate final with a big win over Carrickshock, we faced home club Danesfort in the final who ran out winners by a couple of scores in a very tight game that was level to the dying minutes .
The squad for the day was Scott Ryan, Jamie Meaney, Hugh Flanagan, Jefferson Edogun, Daniel Butler, Ben Rellis , Robbie Kelly, Davin Marshall, Lee Flanagan, Dillon Ryan, Jack Cowman, Jack Barrett, Cormac Dunphy and Jake Marks, thanks to Danesfort for the hospitality on the day.
