Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Championship
The Seniors faced Abbeyside in the County Quarter Final on Sunday knowing they couldn’t afford any slip ups if they were to progress to the final four, Richie Roche settled the nerves when he struck goal in the second minute to get Sion into their stride before Martin O Neill pointed followed by old timers Eoin McGrath and Tony Browne, Gavin Carroll then got a brilliant point on the break following a penalty save from Iggy to put the Monastery men firmly in the driving seat, Abbeyside kept at it though and it was points from the stick of in-form Martin O Neill that kept Sion ahead at the break 1-07 to 0-09, After the break it was O Neill again followed by a huge point from long range from centre back Austin Gleeson that opened up the lead for Sion again, another good save from Iggy proved decisive as Sion opened up a gap that Abbeyside couldn’t bridge, more points from O Neill and his namesake Martin F followed along with three more points from play from Eoin Mac finished off the game, final score Cnoc Sion 1-21 Abbeyside 0-15 ,special mention to 16 year old Mikey Daykin who made his championship debut when he replaced Gavin Carroll in the 54th minute, after the game the draw for the semi finals was made and Sion will face old rivals De La Salle on Saturday next at 5.30 in Walsh Park, team on the day was Iggy, Mark Hoban, Ozzy, Nailer, Gaff, Austin(0-1), Whelo, Martin O Neill(0-12), Stephen Roche(0-1), Tony Browne(0-1), Eoin Mac(0-4), Martin F O Neill(0-1), Richie Roche(1-0), Sean Ryan, Gavin Carroll(0-1)Junior Hurling
