Mount Sion GAA Club Notes

St Patrick’s Day Parade

As is usual our young hurlers will once more march in the local St Patrick’s Day parade this year and it’s going to be a special one as the Grand Marshall is Mount Sion and Waterford legend Tony Browne who has been given the honour for 2015, after the parade the aptly named Paddy’s Pride play in the bar from 5 till 7 so come on up and enjoy the craic!

Half Marathon

Special thanks to Waterford Athletic Club who presented us with a cheque from the proceeds for helping to steward the Half Marathon last December, thanks to everyone who turned up on the morning of the event and to W.A.C. for their gesture towards other sporting clubs in the area, pictured is Club Secretary Owen Sauvage receiving the cheque from Derek Grant and Bobby Coady along with other members of W.A.C.

Cash for Clubs

We’re asking club members if they can support the Cash for Clubs scheme with Topaz , the promotion is running until May and if we get 300 cards filled the club will be in with a chance to win 10000 euro , cards can be picked up at your local Topaz station and if everyone could fill a card or two we’ll be well on our way to getting into the draw!

Fitzgibbon Cup

The Fitzgibbon Cup final replay took place on Wednesday last in Cork with UL overcoming W.I.T. on the night, there was a further blow for Sion with Austin Gleeson limping off after three minutes with a hamstring injury, hopefully Austin will be back to full fitness within the next few weeks.

Deise Draw

The first draw of the 2015 Déise Draw will take place on Friday 27th March. This year the draw will run over eight months at the same great value of €10 per draw.Every month the draw prizes will include a first prize of €10,000, second prize €3,000, third prize €1,500 and 4th-11th prizes of €250.This year we are delighted to announce that Elverys Sports are the Offical Retail Partner to Waterford GAA. A 15% Discount Voucher will be available, on request through your local GAA Club, to all members of the Déise Draw.For more information or to purchase a ticket, please contact Josie Evans or leave your money behind the bar and don’t forget 70% of the money raised is returned to the club!

Membership

We’re already into the middle of March and membership needs to be paid by the end of the month, thanks to everyone who has paid up so far, fees can be paid behind the bar as usual and need to be sent in as soon as possible, all membership rates are available on the membership page on the club website or you can contact Club Registrar Paul Fanning .

National League

Another good result from Waterford against a spirited Antrim side managed by our own Kevin Ryan in Walsh Park on Sunday means the next game against Wexford is going to be a promotion decider, here’s hoping the lads can carry on the good form and get back to Division 1A for next year.

Last Man Standing

Last Man Standing returned this week and we lost another couple of players so we could have a winner soon , don’t forget to have your team into Tina by Thursday and the updated table can be checked out on the website !

Events

We now have the full range of sports channels available in the bar with BT Sports the latest addition to the range, so from GAA to the Premier League and Six Nations rugby why not call up and enjoy the excitement  in the comfortable and warm surroundings of our club bar!

Darts & Cards

Darts and Cards for everyone. Come along and join in the fun. Darts takes place every Thursday night with Cards on Friday nights, both starting around 10pm. Great prizes on offer!! All are welcome both members and non-members !
