Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Hurling
Cnoc Sion 0-12
Roanmore 0-15
Following last week’s comfortable win against Cappoquin Sion went into Sunday’s game with old rivals Roanmore hoping to stay top of the group and in a commanding position to progress to the knock out stages, Martin F O Neill was on point taking duties as both sides traded points in a tight half, Sion were dealt a blow early on when Richie Roche limped off injured to be replaced by Jordan Broaders, as the half wore on the sides couldn’t be separated with Sion restricted to long range efforts the pick of which came from Austin Gleeson with two Stephen Roche points finishing off the half to leave the sides level at 8 points apiece. Despite getting off to the better start in the second half with three points in the first five minutes it was to be a frustrating final twenty minutes as Roanmore racked up the points from frees to gain the upper hand and finish out the game winners by three points 0-15 to 0-12, with this result behind them hopefully the lads can drive on after the few weeks break and get back on track for this year’s championship. Cnoc Sion 1-11
Portlaw 0-14
In their first match of the Championship the Intermediates took on Portlaw last Saturday in Kill with a number of players making their competitive debut, Portlaw had the better of the first half with Evan Curran and Jordan Broaders being Sion’s best performers while Gavin Carroll was his usual dependable self on free taking duties, score at half time Mount Sion 0-06 Portlaw 0-07. The second half started slowly with both sides cancelling out each others points before Portlaw started to take control of the game tipping away on points, Sion to their credit kept plugging away and were rewarded for their efforts when Carroll raised the green flag in the dying minutes from a free to end the game all square on a score of 1-11 to 0-14, next game is on Friday against Butlerstown in Walsh Park at 7.30pm.Junior Hurling
Cnoc Sion 4-11
Clonea 3-14
The Juniors took on Clonea who have had the better of their encounters over the past few years in their opener in Walsh Park on Thursday night last, in what was a bad tempered affair Sion got off to the perfect start when Darren Grey goaled on 5 minutes with a well taken finish, Clonea kept in touch with points but Sion showed their dominance in the half with another goal just before half time to put the score at 2-06 to 0-09.Following the break Clonea blitzed the Sion goal without reply to go five points ahead but only a standout performance from young Kaylem Kennedy and a tactical masterstroke from Pappy Bowe bringing on Dan Kelly to harass the depleted Clonea defence resulting in two goals from on fire Darren Grey in the dying minutes of the game to level the game 4-11 to 3-14, next match is against Passage in Ballygunner on Friday night at 7pm.Under 12’s
In a re-arranged fixture our Under 12’s travelled out to Passage on Sunday morning last for their city league game , the boys came up against a very physical Passage side and also playing against the stiff breeze went into the break 2-02 to 3-01 down, the second half was a different story with Sion scoring 4-04 to run out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 6-06 to 4-02 , well done lads keep up the good work for the next game.Club Website
