Feile 2015
Preparations continue for the U14 squad to travel to the National Feile na Gael Festival on June 19th. We are being hosted by St. Eunans GAA Club in Letterkenny Co Donegal and are currently fundraising with a Flag day arranged for Thursday 4th June at Supervalu at the Hypermarket Morgan Street. Any club members or parents available on the day to help please contact Michael Flanagan on 086 3583463. We have also arranged a “Golden Goal” competition for the Waterford/Cork Championship match with the chance to win one of three €50’s. Tickets are available from the bar staff. A special thanks to ERS Newgate St Waterford and PSI Ltd who have kindly made a donation towards the cost involved.Golf Classic
The 2015 Mount Sion Golf Classic was held on Friday last in Waterford Golf Club and thankfully the weather held up to help make a most enjoyable day for all involved, many thanks to all our sponsors including main sponsor Martin Barrett Skoda and to the hard working committee who made everything happen so smoothly on the day, results and prize winners can be seen on the page on the website.Junior Hurling
The Juniors made the short trip to Kill last Friday night to face Bunmahon in their latest Championship outing. It took just three minutes for the opening score to come in Bunmahon’s favour. Sion responded some minutes later with Joey Sinnott finding his range from the middle of the field. The ever improving Kaylem Kennedy added his first of the night with the experienced Ian “Bomb” Power leading the forward charge. Paul “Pooche” Browne was in fine form as he pointed to give Sion a small cushion early on. The seaside opposition gathered themselves and continued to chase down the lead. Both sides exchanged scores with Sion holding a one point advantage going in at the break.Eric Hoban who made a late first half appearance for the injured Ian Power opened the second half scoring. The men from the Copper coast hit three scores in a row to take the lead, captain Aaron Dempsey gave a perfect ball into the path of Pooche Browne who gave the Bunmahon goalkeeper no chance to sway the game back in Sion’s favour. The combination of Sinnott and Dempsey edged Sion further in front, but to the credit of last year’s County Finalists they battled back once again with 1-3 without a reply to leave it at a one point game. As time ticked on Sinnott appeared for his third point of the evening before a long ball in over the top fell to that man again Pooche who made no mistake with a fine finish to the net. But all was not over, a twenty metre free for Bunmahon hit the net and left two points in it, as the clock crept into injury time it was all hands to deck with Stephen “Scratchy” Wilmott in defence being the personification of spirit as he bravely cleared a ball with no thoughts of his own personal safety to help the Monastery men hold on for their first victory of the championship, final score Cnoc Sion 2-15 Bunmahon 2-13! Well done lads great effort all round also well done to Pappy Bowe and Clive Power for all their hard work over the last couple of months. Next game is in two weeks time against Roanmore.

After a long break the Under 15’s played their first game of 2015 against Ballygunner in the Munster 10 a Side blitz in the club on Saturday morning last, in a fast flowing game Sion got off to the better start with Jordan Roche and Jack Meaney netting in the first half to put the score at 2-05 to 0-07, three more goals came in the second half the pick of which came from Alan Kirwan after some great work from Morgan Grace, with the backs and keeper Bill Wall on top form and Jordan Roche deadly on frees the lads closed out the game 5-09 to 1-11, well done on this result with a trip to Fermoy for the next round in a few weeks time now on the cards.Under 11’s
