Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Dick Roche Memorial Under 9 Tournament
Saturday last saw the second running of the Dick Roche Under 9 Memorial tournament in the club where we welcomed Ballyduff Upper, Fourmilewater, Portlaw, Carrick Swans, O Loughlin Gaels and Faythe Harriers, Sion won out their group against Carrick Swans Faythe Harriers and Ballyduff to reach the final against o loughlin Gaels, in a close fought game that could have gone either way the Kilkenny men just edged it to win the cup, our lads were disappointed but can be justly proud of their achievements on the day, thanks to all the clubs for travelling on the day and to everyone who helped out to make it such a success.Intermediate Hurling
The intermediates took on near neighbours St Saviours in Walsh Park on Thursday last looking for their first win of this year’s campaign, the men in black and white got off to a flying start scoring five points without reply before before Sion finally woke from their slumber with the ever dependable Cian O Regan on free duty scoring three in a row to get back in the game, Saviours once again took the initiative with four points on the trot and threatening the Sion goal with some good stops from net-minder Owen Sauvage before they upped their game once more with O Regan and two Michael Frisby points down the right bringing the score at half time to 0-09 to 0-10 in Saviour’s favour. Following the break the influential Evan Curran started controlling things in midfield and points started coming from several different players taking the pressure off O Regan, Saviours though to their credit kept working away and though Sion were level several times actually never took the lead before two points at the death sealed victory for the Ballybeg men, final score Cnoc Sion 0-18 St Saviours 0-20, though the result didn’t go Sion’s way there can be many positives taken from this performance especially the good teamwork and accurate free taking.Under 12 City League
The Under 12’s continued their good run in the City League on Friday last beating Tramore in Tramore 1-06 to 0-07, good displays all around the pitch especially when the pressure was on, next game is against Mooncoin in a few weeks.Munster Championship
Brilliant win on Sunday for the Waterford senior hurlers as they beat Cork to reach their first Munster Final in a few years, it’s a tribute to the hard working dedication of the squad and back room team that once again Waterford hurling is a force to be reckoned with, best of luck to all involved in the final next month
