Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Feile 2015
What a weekend in Ulster it was for our Under 14 hurlers as they travelled to take part in this year’s Feile, after the long journey to Letterkenny where they were hosted by St Eunan’s the boys won their first game against Buncrana, almost straight away they played Wexford side St. Brigid’s Blackwater and after giving the opposition a good head start battled back only for time to run out before they could overcome the deficit, this meant that they still needed a win on Saturday morning to qualify for the quarter final, Saturday’s opponents were host side St Eunan’s and after a tough game the monastery men triumphed to face Limerick side Bruff in the quarter final, in a brilliant game the never say die attitude and sheer hard work paid off to see us win through to the semi final on Sunday morning where we faced Wicklow side O Tooles in Tyrone where heartbreakingly after six minutes of injury time the Garden county team ran out winners, everyone involved with this team can be justifiably proud of their achievements over the weekend, special thanks to our hosts St. Eunans and their families for the kind hospitality shown to us over the weekend, also to our sponsors E R S, P.S.I. : Pneumatics & Sensors, Clem Jacob Hire, M .W. Murphy & Son Ltd, Eddie Rockett Engineering, Southern Hydraulics and 2M Engineering. Special thanks also to Sean Power and Business Services Group who kindly sponsored the new jerseys.Senior Hurling Championship
The seniors travelled to Fraher Field on Sunday last to take on Dungarvan in round 3 of the County Championship, Sion had the better of an ill tempered first half with points coming from all different areas of the pitch to go into the break leading by three points 0-10 to 0-07, after the break Tony Browne set up Bill Walsh who rattled the net before a few minutes later the veteran raised the green flag himself giving the Dungarvan keeper no chance, at this stage Sion looked to be heading for the win but the men from the west had other ideas slowly growing in confidence to score 1-06 without reply and run out winners by three points on a scoreline of 1-22 to 2-16, this result now puts pressure on the last two games in the group if sion are to continue to the knockout stages.Under 12 City League
The Under 12s continued their campaign in the City League against Mooncoin in the club on Friday night last, in the first half the visitors proved too strong for our young lads and ran up a strong lead, after the break Sion rallied but just couldn’t bridge the gap and the game finished in the Kilkenny side’s favour, tough luck lads keep the heads up for the next game.Deise Draw
