Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Hurling Championship
Cnoc Sion 0-17
Fourmilewater 2-12
The 2016 Senior Hurling Championship finally got underway on Sunday last in Fraher Field as Sion faced Fourmilewater, on a perfect day for hurling the opposition took the game to Sion and had two points on the board before a Martin F O”Neill point became the first Championship score for 2016, disaster was to strike though as the men from the Nire Valley pushed forward and though they shot many wides they notched two goals in quick succession, points from the hard working Stephen Roche just before half time dragged Sion back into it leaving it 2-04 to 0-08 at the break. It took fifteen minutes for Sion to record their first score of the second half with an Owen Whelan point and from this point on it was a different performance from the Monastery men as they finally came to life and brought the game to Fourmilewater, even though they were to get seven more points in this space of time it just wasn’t enough as the County men held on to win by the bare margin, final score Cnoc Sion 0-17 Fourmilewater 2-12.
