Mount Sion GAA Club Notes

Senior Hurling Championship

Cnoc Sion 0-13

Roanmore 2-17

Disappointment in Walsh Park on Sunday last as the Seniors lost out to Roanmore in the second game of the Championship, on the day things just didn’t go right and there can be no complaints about the result, the lads now have some weeks to regroup and hopefully come back and kick start this year’s Championship campaign.

Intermediate Hurling Championship

Cnoc Sion 0-12

Dunhill 1-20

The Intermediates faced a fancied Dunhill side in Walsh Park on Saturday evening last, Dunhill were always in control throughout the match and apart from a spell in the second half when Sion got four points in a row the result never seemed in doubt and they ran out comfortable winners, this is a team of young players and seasoned performers who put their all into every game and are to be commended for their efforts.

 

Under 11’s

The Under 11’s made the short journey to Cleaboy on Friday night last to take on Roanmore in the City League, after starting the game slowly conceding 2 early goals the Sion lads grew into the game through a goal from Davin Marshall which left us trailing by a few points at half time , in the second half our lads came out all guns blazing keeping Roanmore scoreless and scoring 3 – 5 in the process with some great scores in this half from Lee Flanagan, Davin Marshall and Jake Marks. Some notable performances on the night from Emmanuell Adebayo, Dylan Ryan and Conor Walsh helped Sion record a fine win on a scoreline of 4 – 5 – 2-2 making it 3 wins from 5 in the City League to date .

Dick Roche Tournament

The third annual Dick Roche Under 9 Tournament took place on Saturday last where we welcomed Sacred Heart, St. Mollerans and St Vincents of Cork to the club grounds, some fine hurling was on display from all teams and having won all our group games Sion got to the final where we played local rivals Sacred Heart, after a tight first half which ended all square the Sion boys got on top in the second half and went on to win the game and the Cup for the first time, thanks to everyone involved who make the day such a fitting tribute to a great Mount Sion man who would be proud to see Juvenile hurling going so well in his club.

 

New Bench

Also on Saturday last another great Mount Sion man was remembered in a special ceremony in the club, the Greene family unveiled a new bench in memory of their late father Paddy in honour of his 100th birthday which occurred recently, Paddy’s son Jim speaking for the family told of how Paddy was Mount Sion to the core and would be proud to be remembered in such a way by his club, the new bench is situated by the scoreboard and will doubt get plenty use over the coming years.

Feile 2016

The 2016 John West Feile takes place over the weekend of 17th,18th and 19th of June this year and the club are proud to be hosting Whitechurch from Cork , please see the full list of games in he fixtures section and keep an eye on social media for updates over the weekend.

New Arrival

Congratulations to Pappy Bowe and fiancee Hilda on the birth of their son Zach on Tuesday last, best wishes from everyone in the club.

Wedding Bells

Wedding bells were in the air last week for Lorna McGrath and Stephen Cotterell who got married on Friday , congratulations from everyone in Mount Sion.

Kits For Kids

The club are once more delighted to team up with Caulfield’s Supervalu Hypercentre to try and get training equipment for our Juvenile players. As valued club members we ask you to support this initiate to ensure our club reaches it’s target of 200 tokens before July 13th. Deise Draw

June’s Deise Draw will take place in Flynn’s Bar Ferrybank on the 24th, this is one of the main fundraisers for the club and we would encourage as many members and their families as possible to participate, as well as helping your club you are also in a great draw with many good prizes on offer. For information please contact our Club Co-ordinator Josie Evans (087) 068 6700.

Mount Sion Clubhouse

Our club house is the perfect venue for all  your needs, only recently it made it into a list of the ten most unusual places in Ireland to have your wedding !
