Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Minor Hurling
The Minors were in action again on Wednesday night hoping to get their campaign back on track against Dungarvan in the club, on an unseasonably cold night for August Sion got off to the better start with the in form Evan McGrath once more leading the way with points from frees and play, Ben Sinnott netted Sion’s first goal of the game following good work from Alan Kirwan to give Sion a commanding 1-09 to 0-03 points lead at the break. In the second half the men from the Old Borough started to eat into Sion’s lead and when they netted to put five points between the teams it looked like the comeback was on, but right from the puck out McGrath, in a manner reminiscent of his illustrious namesakes, picked up the ball in the centre of the pitch and ran towards goal where he shot to the back of the net to maintain Sion’s superiority, from then on the result was never in doubt and the young monastery men ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 2-15 to 1-09, fixtures are now coming thick and fast with the lads hoping to bring this form into the game on Tuesday night with local rivals De la Salle in Cleaboy.Junior Hurling
The Juniors continue to lay waste to all round them as on Friday night they travelled to Portlaw and were comfortable winners on a scoreline of 5-19 to 1-10, under Pappy’s stewardship this team are going from strength to strength and are now in a good position for the knock out stages. All Ireland Semi Final
The dream is over for another year for Waterford after Saturday’s thrilling replay against Kilkenny where as a man they gave their all but just came up short against the All Ireland champions, well done to all involved and especially to Austin who gave another massive performance and has been a credit to his county and club all summer.Raffle
The Juvenile club are running a raffle which takes place on Saturday 27th August, first prize are a pair of All Ireland Hurling final tickets with €150 spending money and second prize a pair of All Ireland Football final tickets with €150 spending money, this replaces the Christmas raffle and tickets are priced at €5 each and are available from behind the bar, we would ask our members to sell as many as they can as this will be one of our main fundraisers for the year for the juvenile club.Get Well Soon
