Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Championship
Following the final round of the Group stages in the Senior Championship last week it was down to the quarter finals this week where Sion renewed rivalries against local neighbours De La Salle in Walsh Park, in perfect conditions for hurling neither side dominated with Sion being the more economical with the ball and making the most of the chances coming their way, as the half wore on DLS started notching up scores but Sion, led by Martin F’O Neill, upped their game with two points on the trot from Fish being the pick of the scores, half time score Cnoc Sion 0-10 DLS 0-09. Following the restart Sion kept the pressure on with points coming from Stephen Roche, Mark Hoban and Sean Ryan extending the lead, but DLS had other plans and scored seven points without reply and were looking good to drive on and put the game out of Sion’s reach, but in a frenetic final quarter Sion worked hard to get the break and were rewarded when Fish smashed to the net to swing the game back in our favour, the game could have gone either way at the end but two late points from Austin Gleeson made sure the game went into extra time, final score Cnoc Sion 1-16 DLS 0-19, extra time went the same as the rest of the game with Sion never giving an inch even when it looked like the game was going away from them, with tired legs on both sides neither team could break the stalemate and the match ended up level at 1-21 to 0-24, replay takes place next Sunday in Walsh Park at 2pm(TBC)John Keane Tournament
