Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Under 21 Hurling Championship
The Under 21 Hurling Championship got underway on Saturday last as Nicholas Mackey’s young charges took to the field to take on Roanmore in Walsh Park, Sion meant business from the start as John Kennedy sent the ball over the bar in the first minute followed almost immediately by a great save from the Roanmore keeper to deny Evan McGrath, this early pressure paid off handsomely when Eric “Big Eddie” Hoban found himself free in front of goal on the sixth minute where he calmly patted the bar into the net to raise the green flag, with the lively Kennedy causing all sorts of problems in the middle of the park Evan Curran and Austin Gleeson picked off the points from frees and play but Roanmore are nothing if not resilient and they kept in touch getting their own scores to go into the break down by just three points and still well in the game, half time score Cnoc Sion 1-09 Roanmore 0-09. From the restart Roanmore brought it within a point but the Sion defence led by Ross Thornton and the classy Gleeson upped their game to keep them scoreless for fifteen minutes all the while tipping away at the points the pick of which a solo effort from Gleeson, young Eddie Cullen got in on the act scoring his first point at this level while the end of the half saw three points from Cian O’Regan all taken from from under the approving eyes of the Mount Sion faithful on the bank, with a monster point from John Kennedy just on the final whistle the game ended up on a scoreline of 1-20 to 0-13 in Sion’s favour, well done to all these young players many of whom this was their first taste of Under 21 hurling and to Nicholas and his backroom team of Seniors who are brilliant mentors for the team, scorers Evan Curran 0-7, Eric Hoban 1-0, Austin Gleeson 0-4, John Kennedy 0-2, Ferdia MacAodhaghain 0-01, Mikey Daykin 0-2, Eddie Cullen 0-01, Cian O’Regan 0-03.Darts Tournament
It is with deep regret we need to announce the postponement of this Wednesday’s darts exhibition. Unfortunately Gary has picked up an injury while playing in this weekend’s European championship tournament so he cannot travel to Ireland the coming week.We have been promised a call by his agent with an update regarding a re-arranged date. Ideally we are hoping that it may be the following week, but may be later depending on the severity of his injury.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused as we know some people have booked time off work etc. The tickets already purchased by people will of course be valid for the future date, or else anyone will be entitled to a refund if they wish. As soon as Kenny has any updates he will inform people immediately.
