Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Under 21 Hurling Championship
On a bitterly cold November day on Saturday last the Under 21’s took to the field at Walsh Park to play Ferrybank/Erin’s Own in a bid to reach next month’s Eastern final, Sion showed their intent from the off with three points in the first three minutes from Evan McGrath, Mikey Daykin and Cian O’Regan, with Austin Gleeson hitting the frees and Daykin and O’Regan also on target Sion kept ahead of their opponents going into the break three points to the good and playing well, half time score Cnoc Sion 0-09 Ferrybank/Erin’s Own 0-06. Though they might be separated by the River Suir it certainly didn’t seem this way as Ferrybank/Erin’s Own played the second half as if they had been together for years tearing into Sion’s lead and quickly gaining the upper hand, even though Sion bagged two late consolation goals near the finish it was too little too late with the game ending on a 2-22 to 2-12 scoreline in the amalgamated team’s favour, tough luck to Nicholas and his young team who will have learned immensely from playing at this grade this year.Stars in their Eyes
It was another night to remember in the centre on Saturday night as many well known faces took to the stage strutting their stuff in this year’s Stars in their Eyes, under the watchful eyes of judges Jim Greene and Gary Cunningham the contestants battled it out to win the audience vote, in the end Trash Hits rose to the top of the pile to win the coveted top spot ! Well done to Aaron, Mikey, Austin, Peter and Joey who looked and sounded like they were straight out of Compton (via Marian Park !) Special thanks to Tina for all her hard work organising the night and to MC Dick Roche who ran the proceedings superbly and to everyone who helped out on the night .
