Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Christmas Day Swim
The inauguaral Billy Galgey Christmas day swim took place recently and the Galgey family kindly donated the proceeds of €1700 to the juvenile club, the club would like to put on record our gratitude for such a kind gesture from a true Mount Sion family who even at this sad time took time out to make the presentation in the club, Paul has now thrown down the gauntlet for 2017 inviting as many members as possible to get involved and help raise even more funds for the club. Pictured are members of the family handing over the cheque to juvenile chairman Michael Flanagan, special thanks to Matt O’Brien and daughter Lauren who also took the plunge on the day.Gary Anderson Darts Tournament
Friday night finally sees the Gary Anderson Darts Tournament take place in Treacy’s Hotel, with Gary on top form having narrowly lost out to Michael Van Gerwen in the World Championship final last week his many fans in the South East will be looking forward to seeing his brilliant brand of darts on display, event starts at 8pm with a limited number of tickets still available from Treacy’s, behind the bar and from event organiser Kenny Stafford who can also be contacted on 087 6161222 for any info regarding the event.Michael Frisby
Last week saw the passing of former club player Michael Frisby of Ballinamona, Slieverue. Michael was the eldest sibling of the Frisby family brought up in Canon St. and won Minor and Senior Championship medals with the club from the mid fifties into the sixties. On his marriage Michael settled in Ballinamona and immersed himself in the local community and the Slieverue GAA club where he proved a real asset. He always retained a strong affiliation to his home club for whom his brothers Eddie and Bernard also won championship medals as did his nephews Richard, Brian and Michael, the latter in all grades and who, as a current player, maintains a strong family tradition in the club. To Michael’s wife and children and the entire Frisby family we extend our deepest sympathy. Ar Dheis De go raibh anam.Mount Sion Clubhouse
