Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Hurling Championship
Cnoc Sion 1-13
Fourmilewater 0-23
It was a case of deja vu for these two teams as in 2016 they met in the first round of the Senior Championship and as in 2016 the result was the same with the men from the Nire Valley coming out on top getting their season off to a winning start, from the start of the first half in Fraher Field Fourmilewater showed their intent and were a couple of points to the good before Austin Gleeson got Sion’s first championship point of 2017, Fourmile took a grip of the game in the rest of the half and with their county players on form went into the break eight points to the good leaving Sion with a mountain to climb in the second half, half time score Cnoc Sion 0-05 Fourmilewater 0-13. Following the break and a number of changes to the personnel on the pitch Sion had their best spell in the game scoring seven points without reply to get within three points of Fourmile who finally responded in kind and within a few minutes had tacked on a number of points to put themselves out of reach once again, though Sion pushed on in the half and were unlucky with a number of chances the game was effectively over when a late Stephen Roche goal turned out to be a consolation on a bad night for the Monastery men, final score Cnoc Sion 1-13 Fourmilewater 0-23, next game is on Sunday against Roanmore in Walsh Park. Team Ian O’Regan, Mark Hoban (Stephen O’Neill), Aaron Coady, Ben Flanagan, John Dee, Austin Gleeson(0-05), Peter Penkert, Owen Whelan, Stephen Roche(1-00), John Kennedy, Mikey Daykin(Ross O’Keeffe), Martin F O’Neill(0-07), Donal Power(0-01), Richie Roche(Michael Gaffney), Jordan Broaders(Evan McGrath).Under 12’s
The Under 12’s took on local rivals De La Salle in the City League on monday night last and though our lads hurled their hearts out they were outdone by the physicality of the Gracedieu outfit in the end, tough luck lads best of luck in the next game.Cul Camps Coaches
