Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Paddy Murphy Memorial Tournament
The inauguaral Paddy “Moremiles” Murphy under 16 tournament took place in the club on Saturday last where we welcomed Kilkenny’s Danesfort, Tipperary’s Mullinahone and Cushinstown from Wexford to a sun soaked Pairc O’Fainin, Sion took on Danesfort in the first game and laid out their stall with a strong display running out clear winners to get their day off to a good start, Mullinahone were too strong in their side of the group and when Sion dispatched Cushinstown with ease the two best teams on the day met in the final, Mullinahone proved a stern test but this Sion team showed how much they have improved over the last year as strong displays all around the pitch ensured the home team were victorious in winning the game and the tournament, following the game Jim Murphy presented captain P.J. Fanning with the cup and spoke of how proud Paddy would have been on the day and what a fitting memorial to a great clubman, well done to all involved in the running of such a smooth event and thanks to our visitors for making the journey on the day, the lads are back in action again on Wednesday when they make the journey to Ballygunner in the first round of the County Championship.Junior A Hurling
The Junior A hurlers were in action on Friday last against Roanmore in Walsh Park and from the moment the ball was thrown in were in control adding three points in the first five minutes, Sion were comfortable in all areas of the pitch with stand out displays from some of the more seasoned players as well as the young guns eager to impress, Gavin Carroll was top scorer followed closely by Ben Sinnott with Craig Sauvage and Pat Kelly keeping things tight in defence while Aaron Dempsey ran things from midfield, final score Cnoc Sion 0-27 Roanmore 0-12, well done to Pappy and the lads on such a comprehensive result.Under 14 Hurling
The Under 14’s had a good result on Monday last beating Tramore in the club in the County Championship, this young team are playing very well at the moment and their next game is against De La Salle on 10th July in the club also.Minor Football
The Minors have been going very well in the Football championship and travelled to Fraher Field on Sunday last where they once more confounded the odds beating a fancied Cois Bride team on a score line of 4-07 to 2-09 to secure a place in the County semi final, details of the fixture will be posted as soon as they become available.
