Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Championship
Cnoc Sion 1-16
De La Salle 5-17
It was a disappointing day in Walsh Park on Sunday last for the Seniors as they bowed out of the Championship against De La Salle at the quarter final stage, the first half was an even affair with both sides trading points and though DLS were first to raise the green flag Sion plugged away with Austin Gleeson putting over three sideline cuts in a row to leave a two point gap between the sides at the break, half time time score Cnoc Sion 0-08 De La Salle 1-07, the second half saw DLS take an unassailable lead when they powered in three goals with no reply to effectively end the game as a contest, Sion kept working away and a late penalty goal from Gleeson proved to be a consolation as it was too late to mount a comeback, final score Cnoc Sion 1-16 De La Salle 5-17, tough luck to John and his selectors and their young team many of whom made their Championship debuts this year and will be back ready to go next year.Camogie
With the holidays nearly over the Under 8’s are back training on Mondays in the Astro from 6-7.We were delighted asked out to Tom Murphy’s on Wednesday evening to receive a cheque for the recent clean up programme we took part in as part of the recent community programme, we recieved a fantastic reception and huge thanks to all involved.
There is an Under 6 blitz for both boys and girls on Saturday the 1st of September in Mooncoin, should be great fun for the younger players.
Finally we are running a memorial tournament for Danny Bowe on Sat 15th Sept in Mount Sion. Should be a great club day to honor a man who did so much for Mount Sion, more details to follow nearer the time.
