Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Deise Draw
The first Deise draw of 2019 took place on Wednesday night last and it was good news for Mount Sion with three winners, well done to Anthony Power and John Quinn who won €500 and Anthony O’Donnell who won €250, this is a great start to the year and hopefully there’ll be plenty more in 2019, tickets are still available from any member or contact Kenny Stafford.Junior A Hurling
Cnoc Sion 0-10
Ballygunner 1-07
The Junior A Hurling Championship started on Friday night last and on the night the weather played a major part in the proceedings in a very windy St Saviours pitch, Sion played with the wind for the first half taking full advantage with Richie Roche and Brian Cusack the standout players helping to put them into a 0-10 to 0-02 lead at half time, the second half saw Ballygunner gain the upper hand as they had the worsening conditions on their side but neither side could pull away and the game enede in a draw which was a fair result for both sides, final score Cnoc Sion 0-10 Ballygunner 1-07, next game is against Passage next Sunday morning in Cleaboy.Junior B Hurling
Cnoc Sion 2-14
Erin’s Own 2-14
The Junior B’s took on Erin’s Own in the club on Sunday morning last and an entertaining game was served up from both teams, both sides were slow getting scores on the board until the game burst into life when one of the Erin’s Own players was shown the line after a bad challenge, Sion then used the extra man to their advantage and helped by a fine penalty save from Owen Sauvage the went into the break 0-09 to 0-06 points ahead, in the second half good performances from Lee Halligan and Dermot O’Byrne and a superb goal from Johnny Flynn put Sion in the driving seat but the fourteen men plugged away getting their reward with a last gasp goal to seal an unlikely draw, good performances all round the pitch give Jonathan and his team plenty of optimism for the next game.Benefit Night
The benefit night for local musician Pa O’Brien on Friday was a massive success with a huge turnout, Pa’s family would like to thank everyone who supported the night and to the club for their contribution, also to Michael and all the staff for their hard work on the night, we wish Pa all the best wishes on his road to a full recovery.Camogie
