Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Junior Hurling
The Junior B Hurlers registered their first win of the campaign on Friday night beating Dunhill in Dunhill by a comrehensive margin scoring five goals in the process, manager Jonathan Flanagan was delighted with the result and it sets them up nicely for the next game against De La Salle next weekend.Munster Championship
Another big day awaits next Sunday when the All Ireland Champions Limerick visit Walsh Park to play Waterford in the third round of the Munster Championship, another big crowd is expected in the club and we are asking for volunteers on the day to help out with stewarding, we recieved some very positive reports from the last game and it would be great to continue this on, in the club both matches will be shown live with catering and outside bars followed by music and later on in the night the now legendary Eddie Cullen on the decks ! Looking forward to seeing everyone on the day.Mick Heffernan
The Mount Sion club was saddened with the recent passing of Mick Heffernan of Marian Park in his 99th year. Mick’s death saw another link with the great Mount Sion teams of the early fifties broken. A native of Glenmore Mick attended school in Mount Sion and played Harty Cup hurling with the school, and played for Munster in colleges inter provincials.. Mick won senior championship medals with the club in 1949,’51’, ’53 and ’54 having already won county titles in Kilkenny and Wexford where he worked with Clover meats prior to his return to settle in Waterford. He had the unique distinction of playing inter county hurling with Kilkenny, Wexford and Waterford, Mick reared his family in Marian Park, adjacent to our club grounds and his sons Karl, Noel and Michael all played underage with Mount Sion winning underage championships and Karl going on to win four senior championship medals. Up to recent years Mick enjoyed nothing more than watching young hurlers playing and being coached as he spent may a summer evening strolling in the club grounds. Mick was predeceased by his wife Kathleen. To Karl, Noel and Michael, his daughters Breda and Collette and the extended Heffernan family we extend the sincerest sympathy of all in Mount Sion.Camogie
Training tomorrow night (Monday) for all ages 6-7pm in astroturf. Our Under 6’s & 8’s played Butlerstown on Monday evening last, unfortunately defeated but two great games.
Our Under 12’s were in a grading blitz on Saturday in Brickey Rangers, winning games against Clonea and Ballyduff Upper before being narrowly beaten by Dungarvan, well done to all the girls and coaches.
School Field
It has come to our attention that dogs are being walked on the school field recently, we would like to remind everyone that for the health and safety of our players and everyone using the facilities dog walking is not permitted under any circumstances on our pitches and we will have signs going up to that effect in the coming weeks.Fixtures
