Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Hurling Championship
Cnoc Sion 1-20
Clonea 0-17
A place in the quarter finals of this year’s Championship was up for grabs on Sunday in Walsh Park as Sion took on Clonea hoping their form from the group stages would continue, Sion started well but the opposition were doggedly pursuing their scores and only for a fantastic double save from Ian O’Regan in the first half they would have been even closer, as it was Evan McGrath’s point taking and contributions from the returning Austin Gleeson helped Sion to a three point lead at the break Cnoc Sion 1-08 Clonea 0-08, Clonea’s cause was not helped by the dismissal of one of their players for two yellow card offences and as the game wore on Sion’s numerical superiority and experience showed, spurred on by Gleeson who pointed two superbly executed sideline cuts Sion finished the game with a six point margin, final score Cnoc Sion 1-20 Clonea 0-17, this result now means Sion qualify for the Senior Hurling championship quarter finals for the eleventh year in a row where they will face Lismore next weekend, date and time to be confirmed.Minor Hurling Championship
Cnoc Sion 0-16
Naomh Carthage 2-14
The long journey to Lismore on Saturday evening proved fruitless for our Minor hurlers as they narrowly lost out to Naomh Carthage, on the day Sion played one of their best performances of the year and were just unlucky with chances that hit the post and crossbar that could’ve swung the game their way, work rate and effort couldn’t be faulted and they now focus on the next game in two weeks against Ballygunner.Under 13 Hurling
The Under 13’s got their season off to a flying start on Friday night with a good win away to Ferrybank, their next game is away to Naomh Carthage in Lismore on Wednesday next.Tony Forristal Tournament
