Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Hurling Championship
Cnoc Sion 1-16
Ballygunner 0-21
There was heartbreak for our Seniors in Walsh Park on Saturday last as they were just pipped at the post by Ballygunner in an enthralling encounter, hopes of a first County final since 2014 were dashed at the final whistle when the winning score just couldn’t be found, Sion started brightly and when Austin Gleeson buried the ball to the back of the net from a penalty the reigning champions knew they had a match on their hands, half time score Cnoc Sion 1-08 Ballygunner 0-13, Sion dominated for periods of the second half but Ballygunner called on all their experience and resilience to just keep themselves ahead, Sion threw all they had at them in the closing stages without getting those crucial scores they just holding out to win on a two point margin and their relief was plain to see at the final whistle, full time score Cnoc Sion 1-16 Ballygunner 0-21, this was a fantastic performance from all involved who left everything out there on the field and were a credit both on and off the pitch they represented their club with pride. Scorers Martin O’Neill (0-09) , Austin Gleeson (1-04), Stephen Roche (0-01), Martin F.O’Neill (0-01), Dylan Butler (0-01).Camogie
Another huge week for Mount Sion camogie, the younger girls have training at 6pm on Monday but will finish at 6.45 instead of 7, please have the Returntoplay form/health questionnaire filled out beforehand and bring water bottles.Unfortunately it wasn’t to be for our Under 14 girls on Saturday last in the county final, a very tough game but our girls battled through to the very end, we are immensely proud of your efforts and progress throughout this whole year. Our Under 12’s have advanced to the county final against St Mollerans, game will be played on Sunday October 3rd at 12.30 pm in the WIT arena. This is a ticket only event, details to follow during the week, best of luck to all involved. All support welcome and needed.
Last ordered for half zips are on Wednesday 29th of September and payment needed immediately. Contact Pamela Stafford or our Facebook messenger.
We would also like to thank our sponsors ASTC, Two Brothers and Eirgen Community for their very generous donation to the Under 14 panel for their county final training tops, we really appreciate the kind gestures from three local businesses.
Dick Roche Tournament
A big day on Saturday started with a great morning of juvenile hurling to remember the much missed Dickie Roche, Dick was involved in all aspects of the club from a young age and his book “The Mount Sion Story” is still the definitive history of the first 75 years of the club.
After two exciting games with Mooncoin and Brickey Rangers, our Under 10’s prevailed to win the cup.
As usual a big thank you to the Roche family and to the visiting clubs for helping make this a lovely day for all the boys. Well done to all involved.
Deise Super Draw
September’s draw took place on Wednesday last and we had one winner, congratulations to Seamus Ryan who won €100, tickets are still available for the remaining draws from Kenny Stafford or any member of the committee.Fixtures
