Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Hurling Championship Final
Cnoc Sion 0-08
Ballygunner 2-11
A rain soaked Walsh park on Sunday saw Mount Sion play in their first Senior Final in eight years as they took on Ballygunner for the News and Star cup, the underfoot conditions caused problems for both teams as they tried to battle the elements as well as their opponents and scores were hard to come by in the first half, two top class saves made a big difference to Sion’s hopes as the reigning champions went into the break holding the advantage, a strong second half performance from the holderskept Sion at bay and despite their best efforts Ballygunner ran home winners of another County Championship, though it wasn’t to be on the day no one can doubt the commitment of this group of players and we look forward to seeing them in action again next year.Under 13 Hurling
A gallant effort by our Under 13’s in Carriganore on Saturday saw them just pipped at the post by Ballygunner in the final, they had been in action just two days previously when they overcame the challenge of Abbeyside, well done to this young team and their coaches on their progress this year.Dick Roche Tournament
There was a great morning’s hurling in the club on Saturday when we hosted Glenmore , Ballyduff Lower, and Passage in the annual Dick Roche Memorial Tournament. We had some great hurling on show with Glenmore edging out Passage in the final and Mount Sion emerging on the right side of a close fought encounter with Ballyduff to claim the shield final.
Thanks to all who supported the day and organised the event, thanks to the visiting clubs, the referees and especially the Roche family for making this event possible.
Camogie
Well done to our Under 14 girls who are County Shield Champions following a hard fought win over Ardmore in Carriganore on Saturday morning.
