Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Condolences
Michael Walsh
Last week saw the sad passing of Michael Walsh, a proud native of Passage and father of Mount Sion Primary School Principal Michael. A former river pilot Michael and his family lived in Bernard Place and Gracedieu before moving to Tramore in later years and was a popular and much valued coach to our underage teams in the late seventies and early eighties, managing teams to Under-14 and Under-16 championship victories as well as to the Feile Na nGael final in Kilkenny. Those teams included many players who went on to win senior championships and who are active in the club to this day and are part of Michael’s legacy. To his wife Mary, sons Michael and Brian, daughters Yvonne, Annemaria and Orla, his brother Jim and their extended families we extend the heartfelt sympathy of all in Mount Sion.Professor Tom Gallagher
The death occurred in Dublin last week of Professor Tom Gallagher of the Gallagher family of Roanmore, a family with a long and proud Mount Sion tradition. Tom’s father Mick was a most prominent club player and official from the early days being a member of our first championship winning team and going on to become Club Chairman. Young Tom followed in his father’s footsteps and those of his uncles Jack, Tom and Willie as a prodigious underage hurler in the juvenile leagues of the fifties and represented Waterford in all grades, going on to win minor and senior county titles with the club as did his brother Michael. Tom went on to win Fitzgibbon Cup with U.C.C. and subsequently pursued a distinguished career in academia. To Tom’s daughters Siobhain and Kathi, his son Colm, brothers Michael and Niall and all of the extended Gallagher family we extend our deepest sympathy on his sad passing.Christmas Craft Fair
