Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Intermediate Football
Cnoc Sion 1-09
Ballyduff Lower 1-06
Our Intermediate Footballers got their campaign off to a winning start on Saturday last in Dunhill as they beat Ballyduff Upper in the opening game, Sion got off to the perfect start with a goal within the first ten minutes giving them the momentum on a day when scores were going to be at a premium, they kept that lead and despite a late rally by Ballyduff they ran out three point winners going into their next game in a few weeks time.
Under 15 Hurling
A big night out in Carriganore saw the Under 15’s book their place in the Eastern Final on Tuesday night as they edged past De La Salle in a thriller, the reward is a place in the final on Tuesday week against Roanmore in the same venue, best of luck to all involved.Junior C Football
History was made on Sunday as Mount Sion fielded a second AduIt Gaelic Football team for the very first time.
The Junior ‘C’ squad made the short trip to Micheál McCraith Tramore , comprising a mixture of young and (very) old players the squad were well turned out in their new Pinergy jerseys.
In bad conditions the first half was nip and tuck with Sion’s opening point coming from the evergreen corner back Pat McGrath. Our midfield talisman, Ned Power chipped in with a brace of white flags to leave the game level just before half time, however on the stroke of half time, the home team found the back of the net to leave Tramore a goal up.
Wholesale changes were made at the break and the average age was now up to 40. On the sidelines coaches Willy, Smiley and Gallo gave their instructions.
One of the younger lads Michael Frisby, started to exert his influence on the 40 (We think he might be still out there). As both teams made changes the game lost its shape and the Seasiders got a stranglehold of the match and raced into a two point lead. Some super saves from our number one the ageless Nicky Mackey kept Sion in the game.
The biggest roar of the afternoon was reserved for the introduction of Swifty and Scratchy to the fray, unfortunately the experienced duo could not claw back Tramore’s lead and a superb goal by Louie Halligan proved too little too late.
Well done to Tramore on their deserved victory, a mention also to the ref Jack Bray on a fine game.
Next up for Mount Sion is a Home game versus Naomh Pòl next Saturday
