Last Man Standing
Last Man Standing continues and we’re now down to single figures left, don’t forget to have your team into Ricky by Thursday.Paddy Walsh
The death of Paddy Walsh in Dublin last week was greeted with sadness in club circles as it stirred memories of one of our outstanding underage players in a great era of underage hurling in the club. One of the well known Walsh family of Bernard Place, Paddy was on the club side that won the first ever Under-16 hurling title in 1960 and followed up as an outstanding player on the Minor Championship winning sides of ’62 and ’63. In 1963 Paddy captained the Waterford minor side that drew with a star studded Limerick team in the Munster Minor Championship in Cork and lost narrowly in the replay in Walsh Park. He was outstanding in both games. On graduating from St. Patricks, Drumcondra Paddy settled in Dublin to pursue his career as a Primary School teacher and was a loss to Mount Sion and Waterford hurling. Paddy’s uncle Michael Dowling was a club stalwart and championship winner in the formative years of the club during the thirties. His brother Mick won a Minor championship in 1950 and his brother Johnny played at wing back on the Senior Championship winning side of 1972.To Paddy’s wife Geraldine, son Conor and the entire Walsh family is extended the sympathy of all in the Mount Sion community.Ar dheis De go raibh se.
Sheila O’Sullivan
All in the club were saddened to hear of the passing of Sheila O’ Sullivan née Meade during the week. Sheila’s love of hurling and Mount Sion was inherited from her Mam, the one and only Mary “Mount Sion.” and Sheila was so proud in recent years when the club honoured her Mam’s memory with an under 7’s and 8’s tournament in her honour.
Our heartfelt condolences to her husband Michael, son Nigel, daughter Fiona, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, son-in-law Tom, daughter-in-law, Gillian, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.
