Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Intermediate Football
Mount Sion 3-17
Ballyduff Lower 1-07
Before the game manager Ian Galgey presented Ballyduff with a wreath from all at Mount Sion in respect of Dod Whelan and a minutes silence was held for Marie Walsh.
Ballyduff started the brightest and raced into a 1-3 to 0-01 lead. Sion grew into it, with points coming from Gareth Duffy, Jack Kirwan and Martin F O Neill. Our first goal soon came from Manny Adebayo after which we took charge before Jack Kirwan also raised a green flag. Half time score 2-7 to 1-3.
A terrific start to the second half saw us pull away with brilliant team scores coming from PJ Fanning and Adam Regan. A huge display on the day from Alan Kirwan in a position he might have to get used to.
We now face Bonmahon next weekend in the Eastern Quarter final. Full details of that fixture will be sent out in due course.

Condolences
It was with sadness we heard of the passing of Marie Walsh last week. Marie was mother of former player and mentor John “Welto” Walsh. To John and his sisters we offer our sympathy. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sí.
Juvenile Tournaments
A festival of hurling & camogie took place on Saturday as we celebrated and honoured two great Mount Sion people.
The Mary Meade Blitz took place on the ‘Brothers’ pitch.
The lads were presented with their Mary Meade medal by John Flynn.
Thanks also to Mary’s son in law, Michael.
While the younger kids were playing in the ‘Brothers’ field, the Under-8’s and Under -9’s were battling it out for the John Keane Cup on the adult pitch.
Matches were close and tense with some super hurling on display.
Huge credit to all the boys that took part. They all left everything on the pitch. A special mention to their coaches who work very hard with this group.
John Keane Cup winners were Leinster. Their captain, Cian, received the cup from John Keane’s great granddaughters, Annie and Maggie .
Present also were Susan, John’s granddaughter, Margaret and Catherine, John’s daughters.
A huge thanks to all the kids & their families.
A special thank you to the Meade and Keane families.
