After a good season last year we got this year’s championship off to a great start against Ferrybank in Mount Sion on Friday night. Sion’s Joey Sinnott set up Bryan Power for an easy tap in for our first goal. Ian Galgey chipped over a point with Michael Gaffney also pointing. Ferrybank replied with a single point. Joey Sinnott got on the scoring sheet with a great passage of play with the combination of Frisby and Galgey assisting in Sion’s second goal. Dan Kelly reacted quickest to Stephen Roche’s blistering ball which crashed off the crossbar to finish to the net. Ian “Bomb” Power pointed before Ian Sheridan pulled a brilliant double save in the Sion goal to deny the visitors. Frisby pointed before a master class was performed by Ian Galgey, a brilliant turn, burst of pace and a super finish to the top right corner gave Sion a 4-4 to 0-1 lead at half time.
Ferrybank got the second half scoring underway with a goal when a lobbing ball caught Ian Sheridan off his line. Bryan Power couldn’t find the target five minutes in when he blasted wide for a brilliant goal opportunity. Brother to brother, Pat Kelly passed up the line to big brother Dan to send Sion further into the lead. The Bomb got his second point of the night with Dan Kelly getting another. Galgey again hit the net with a smooth finish. Ferrybank’s fight back began fifteen minutes into the second half. Two points followed by a goal cut the lead. A final point by Ferrybank and Sion’s defence holding strong meant Sion ran out comfortable winners. Final score Mount Sion 5-7 to Ferrybank 2-4. Well done lads. Next game is on 18th May against Roanmore in Mount Sion.Kelloggs Cul Camp
