Presidents Visit
Uachtaran Cumann Luthchleas Gael, Christy Cooney finally arrived after much anticipation to officially open the Hurling Alley and Astro Turf and rename the field after former GAA President, Life Chairman and Mount Sion legend Padraig O’Fainin. This event was well attended by club members, friends of Mount Sion, County Chairman Tom Cunningham, Bishop Lee and other distinguished guests and The Thomas Francis Meagher Fife & Drum Band who paraded the young hurlers around the field and provided music for the occasion. The President spoke of his great admiration for Padraig O’Fainin and the tremendous work that he achieved in the GAA and the local community of Mount Sion. It was great to see over 150 children take part in mini-games during his visit. Christy Cooney also remarked on how well the grounds looked, and great credit must go to Anthony Kirwan our Development Officer and Davy Carroll a loyal servant of Mount Sion. A piece of Waterford Crystal was presented to Christy Cooney to commemorate his visit. At the launch of David Smith’s biography “The Unconquerable John Keane”, The President said that it is an overdue and welcome addition to the GAA library. A great day was enjoyed by all, with the Senior hurlers finishing off the day with a great win against James Stephens, in what was a entertaining game. I must pay tribute to the Ladies Committee for putting on a great spread during the day, James Stephens for traveling for the game, the Organizing Committee set up for the occasion and anyone that helped in any way during the day especially with organizing the children.
Junior Hurling
The Junior hurlers were scheduled to play Tramore last Friday night, but received a walkover, as Tramore could not field a team. The Juniors will play this Saturday night against last year’s champions Passage in Passage, throw in at 7.30pm.

Well done to Ben Flanagan who represented Waterford in the Primary Game at half time in the Munster Semi-Final between Waterford and Clare. Ben is a prominent young player on our Under 12 team and is one of our stars for the future.
