Junior Hurling
The Junior Hurlers suffered their first defeat in the league section against Roanmore last Thursday night. Mount Sion fielded an under strength side who were without the services of some of their more experienced players. The game never really started as the match lacked intensity with both sides failing to grab the game and make it theirs. Roanmore led at half time by the minimum margin. The second half was much the same as the first, some poor free taking and shooting left Mount Sion only converting a single point in the second half. Roanmore took advantage of this and took their chances and were awarded a penalty which was saved by Owen Sauvage in the Sion goal and cleared. Moments later Mount Sion received a 21 meter free which also failed to materialise. Overall the game lacked championship pace with the weather not helping; some to stand out were Craig Sauvage, Robert Kindlon and Shane Ryan in defence, Aaron Dempsey worked tirelessly in midfield while Brian Power and Evan Sheridan were best in the forwards. Final score Mount Sion 0-5 to Roanmore 0-11. The juniors are due to play Dunhill in two weeks time, a win here would seal a place in the semi finals.
Under 15
Our under 15 hurlers played Roanmore on Monday last in the first round of the Under 15 City League. After a great start to the game our lads fell behind and at the break trailed Roanmore by five points. The team put up a brave second half display but in the end lost out in what proved to be a good game of hurling played in a sporting fashion by both teams. Best for Sion were Stephen Power in goal, Reese Hodgers, William Ormond, Lee Halligan and Evan Curran in defence. Both midfielders, Ross Thornton and Eoin Daniels (as Captain) battled hard throughout the match and in our forward line Cian O’Regan and Austin Gleeson played well. Next up are Ballygunner on Saturday the 11th July and De La Salle on Saturday 17th July.

Best of luck once again to Waterford who take on Cork in the Munster Final replay next Saturday, especially our own Tony Browne, Ken McGrath, Eoin McGrath and Owen Whelan.
