Under 13s
Our Under 13s played another round of the City League last Monday night against Mooncoin in Mount Sion. Mooncoin opened the scoring with a point before Mount Sion hit back with 2 points from play and a well taken free from Ben Flanagan. Mooncoin added a further 2 points but Ryan Flanagan (2) and Mathew Butler pointed for Sion to lead at the break by 3 points. Mount Sion were quick to start with 4 points coming from Ryan Flanagan and Mooncoin finished the second half scoring with 1-2 but a series of saves by Sion keeper Dylan Sheridan kept Sion in the lead and gave them the win. Final score Cnoc Sion 1-10 to Mooncoin 1-5. The panel for the night was Dylan Sheridan, Eoghan Browne, Conor Quinn, Ben Sinnott, Jonathan Flynn, Michael Daykin, Michael Flynn, Ben Flanagan, Kaylem Kennedy, Jake Mooney, Ryan Flanagan, Andrew Doherty, Mathew Butler, Jordan Hutchinson, Evan McGrath, Dean Flannery, Dale O’Keeffe, Jack Tebay, Jack Whelan, Daniel Jacob and Ryan Denton.
Under 16 Football
The Under 16s got their Gaelic Football Championship underway with a fantastic win over Ballyduff Upper in Mount Sion. There was no shortage of goals with Mount Sion producing 9 of the 10 scored in the game. Final score Cnoc Sion 9-5 to Ballyduff 1-6. The next game was played on Monday 6th September against An Gaeltacht in Ring. Report to follow next week.
Junior Football Semi Final
The Junior Footballers travelled to Dunhill to play Kilmacthomas in the Semi-Final stage of the championship. Mount Sion opened the scoring thanks to a half blocked goal by Kenny Stafford. To Kilmacthomas’s credit they replied with 4 points. Michael Frisby kept Mount Sion in touch with points from the placed ball. Mount Sion were awarded a penalty and Ian “Bomb” Power kept his composure and slotted the ball past the keeper. Our second goal came from a long ball which fell into the path of the unmarked Ian Power who blasted the ball to the net; however 2 fast Kilmacthomas goals reduced Sion’s lead to leave 2 between the sides at the break. Mount Sion’s defence held firm throughout the second half with good performances coming from Pat McGrath, Patrick Bowe and Sean Ryan in defence with Ian Galgey, Ian Power and Robert Breslin constantly causing trouble up front. In the end Mount Sion finished the game with 5 points to spare and a well deserved place in the Eastern Final.
