Social Benefit
Participation in structured sport will enable your son to live fully as a young person, to benefit socially from mixing with their own age group in a happy and friendly environment, where there is discipline and proper supervision.
Leisure Time with Friends
The children make good friends and grow up through their teenage years in company with these friends. Therefore parents will know where their children are spending their leisure time.
Generally our trainers and coaches are parents themselves, whose own sons are involved. Having seen their own children benefit immensely from involvement in outdoor sport, they wish other children to have the same opportunities.
Our Club Welcomes Everybody
Young players are at the core of our club at Mount Sion. We cater for all age groups, from age of 4 upwards. Children and young people from any school or any area of the city are welcome to come along, to train and play with Mount Sion. At present our young players are drawn from all over the city area.It is often said: You do not choose your club, you grow into it during your school days and it becomes your second home, where you spend much of your leisure time in the company of your active friends. You move up through your teenage years, occupied and active. You may never become a great player, but there is a place for everyone, perhaps as a team trainer or club administrator or just an enthusiastic supporter. It starts when you are young so give it a go and see what happens.

Our Story of Success
Our club was founded in 1932 and over a period of more than 80 years Mount Sion has been Waterford’s most successful club on the hurling fields, as is clear from the following list of titles:
- 35 Senior Hurling.
- 2 Munster Senior Hurling.
- 7 Under 21 Hurling.
- 27 Minor A Hurling.
- 5 Senior Football.
- 2 Junior Hurling.
- 3 Junior Football.
- 5 Minor Football.
Foundations were laid and the future secured. A massive amount of young players were involved. Sport was central to their lives as children and as teenagers. Many are now playing Senior Hurling for Mount Sion and Waterford. In 2002 Mount Sion were crowned Munster Club Champions and went on to record a hat trick of County Titles from 2002-2004. Also in 2002 when Waterford finally made the break through to become Munster Senior Hurling Champions after 39 years, there were seven Mount Sion men representing the club on the panel.
Character Building
They learn on the playing field the virtue of honest effort and sportsmanship, the importance of teamwork and the value of being part of a group intent on enjoying an outdoor pastime within a framework of discipline and supervision. Friendships are made and confidence gained. At Mount Sion we are played of the generations of boys whom our club has helped turn into men and equally fully aware of the generations of men who remained the boys at heart. Our club is based on people with a passion for Sion and Waterford hurling.
