Junior Football
Hard luck to the Junior Footballers who lost out by 3 points in County Final last Sunday against a fancied Tallow team. A poor first half performance saw Sion concede 3 goals with Michael Gaffney pouncing on a rebound shot to grab Sion a goal. The westerns led by 11 points at half time. Some positional changes by the Sion management at half time saw the monastery men reduce the lead to 6 points before a Martin O’Neill shot on goal crash off the post and into the net to leave 3 between the sides with minutes remaining. A last gasp attempt to draw the game was in vain as the men from the west held firm for a well deserved win. Well done to all the lads and management team of James Ryan, Paul Hammond, Michael Frisby and Nicholas Mackey for putting in a great effort through-out the year.
Under 8s
Our U-8’s travelled to Dublin on Saturday last to contest an 8 team tournament hosted by the Kilmacud Crokes. The boys were victorious in all three games in their group against Kilmacud Crokes, O’Donovan Rossa and Clarinbridge. In a hard fought semi final they defeated Castlegar and onto the final where another battling performance saw them edge out the hosts club Kilmacud Crokes first team in a great final by 2-01 to 0-01. This was the boy’s second tournament win in 3 weeks and they can be proud of their efforts this year. Thanks to all the parents who made the trip to support the team on the day. The panel for the day was Jack Byrne, Jake Cawley, Ben Tynan Dunphy, Stephen Finn, Ben Frisby, Jamie Gleeson, Kieran Hanrahan, Ryan Kelly, Aaron Murphy O’Connell, Peter Nolan, Craig O’Neill, Robert Quinn, Adam O’Connor, Sean Doocey, Adam Walsh, Dylan Browne, Trevor Madigan, Dylan Butler, Daniel Murphy and Cian O’Grady.
