Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Senior
Our Senior Hurlers faced Passage in the fourth round of the championship last Saturday evening. Both teams were undefeated which meant the winner went top of the table. The early exchanges involved both Stephen Roche and Eoin Kelly. Sion conceded a 21 yard free with Passage’s scorer in chief taking full advantage of and crashing to the net. Stephen Roche pulled back a point from a free with Michael Gaffney got in on a rebound shot from Richard Roche to pull a goal back for the Monastery men. Sion went on to hit several wides on the trot but points from Sean Ryan and Stephen Roche had Sion one point up at half time. Sion now played against the breeze in the second half. Eoin McGrath hit the target just after forty-five seconds of the restart. A great Stephen O’Neill back out of defence to the loosely marked Stephen Roche gave Sion a three point lead. Passage enjoyed some dominance with several scores to reduce the margin to one point. The introduction of Anthony Kirwan midway through the half, paid dividends as Anthony pointed from close range. Sion hit a second goal from Sean Ryan just on the twentieth minute mark and looked to be cruising. Ian O’Regan was called upon to make a great save just after with Passage now enjoying dominance and hitting several unanswered points. A turning point came on the stroke of injury time, with Passage’s midfielder sneaking through to hit the net and send the villages two points clear. The final score came from a Passage free as Sion recorded their first Championship loss this year. Final score Cnoc Síon 2-12 to Passage 2-15. Next Sunday we face Roanmore in Carriganore at 7pm. Best of luck.Minor Championship
Our Minor Hurlers played their second game of the championship last Tuesday evening in Mount Sion against neighbours De La Salle.
